RICA and Lower Interconnect Rates Rear Their Ugly Heads for Vodacom

Good, get competitive or suffer. The losses they make now should be offset against the mega profits they made at our expense in the past.
 
Awww shame! Seriously, my heart's just breaking for them now... No doubt this means that they'll have to not sponsor almost every damn rugby team and event, perhaps those fat cat execs will have to take a second bond on 4 out of their 5 holiday homes and game farms and luxury cars. This is just shocking!!

At least we know that the service and quality can't get any worse... or holy crap, can it???

In markets like Tanzania, the number of competitors is so high that the market is likely to stall.

Strange... america has infinity more competitors and it has not stalled.

More competitors = better.

Unless you rape your customers in a protected market, more competitors should not be a problem for anyone.

Putting it mildly i hate VodaCom for many reasons.

VodaCom has conducted so much of underhanded dealings in this country with an uneducated Regulator.

Knowledge is Power - Because ICASA never had it they never had Power.

Vodacom was too used to easy money , it's time they started working for it now.

Please dont believe all the Bull**** Vodacom publishes in the media.

They are making billions - look at their Financials.

They have so few Base Stations for the 20 Odd million Subscribers to make calls off.

Like 7000 BTS for 23 Million subscribers = Not enough capacity to offer lower rates.

Bharti has 40 000 Towers for 100 million Subscribers - Now that is capacity made real.

VodaCom does not want to invest in more towers but wants higher call rates.

More Towers mean they can offer real value to subscribers and offer cheaper rates.

They just Dont want to.

How much of spectrum is hoarded by VodaCom & MTN = 900mhz

Icasa should repossess some of it and Re-issue it to other Operators.


IcASA must seriously start looking at Spectrum refarming and hand it out to newer Operators.

FFS! They are rolling out 20mbps+ towers = 2MegaByte / Second download speed = R4 per second!!!

They have no excuse here!
