Paying for premium online news in SA

I won't pay, I'll just find a trustworthy source thats free. Wasn't there an article yesterday about a newspaper that lost 90% of their online readers simply because they forced them to register? They didn't even force them to pay, and they lost 90%
 
If what I currently see on IOL and News24 is what they plan to charge for, I will simply laugh at them and go to other sites :)
 
I've stopped reading TimesLive as it is... virtually nothing but political news. News24 is ok... but to pay for it when it's plastered with ads and sponsorship? pass...
 
this doesn't make sense here.....as it is the cost of accessing the internet in SA is quite high!

There will always be a few good free sites.

Around 1999 ~ 2000 News24 went paid-for, and it didn't last one year.

http://www.timesplus.co.uk just recently went that way - won't be viewing their online news again.
 
I would not pay to a local company like Sunday Times or MG. I just don't really have that much interest in local politics. The journalism in SA is pretty poor anyway. I would pay for a Stratfor, Economist or similar subscription, but not to some lousy local news gathering outfit which churns out E-News/SABC news like quality.

Yeah, like TIME. Look at what it did for their readership. The previous revenue generated from advertising is probably higher can their current subscription income.

The market/consumer will dictate.
 
Hey Mr Newspaper man, all it takes is bookmarks, right click and select delete on your site and you are history, I have net skillz, I can find more newz
 
I'm also not interested in local [-]propaganda[/-] news. All I want is better service delivery and access to information. I want to know what new "taxes" the government has dreamed up and when/how much I must pay.
