Four months to "allocate ports"?

I placed an order for residential ADSL in mid-June and was told the usual "7-14 days" for installation.

However, upon my query a week later, I was informed there is a project underway to "allocate ports in my area", which will be complete by 14 August.

Of course, on 15 August this completion date has now turned into 28 September. A month-and-a-half later than the original date?

I guess ADSL is just not happening anymore, now that Telkom fear they'll be forced to charge a realistic price for it? Good.

Roll on SNO.

Um - SNO is like soooooo far away it may as well not exist yet.

DSLAMS (Air conditioned) take a while to install, and the last I heard, there is a problem getting these components imported fast enough (well - teklom actually don't want to order enough to start off with). Then, the implementation team, yup, one team, has to actually install the units, and you know, an SAA strike can cause havok to any timetable ...

/me cannot believe i'm making xcuses for teklom ...

I think everyone who are still waiting for ADSL after "7-14days" should send a complaint to ICASA and also hit them for false advertising.

I ordered on 29 July and after many calls in the last two weeks I was told that the earliest date for completion of the project to allocate ports on the exchange is 30 November 2005!

When will Telkom stop acting like they are doing you a favour when you apply for a service from them?!

sorry to hear about your predicament. it's the huge back log of customers that keeps you from getting installation, many many people have now applied for adsl now that it is "more affordable"...

I ordered on July 22'nd.

I phoned for the first time last week and was given a date of 19'th August. Don't know if they are going to actually install on that date.

luckily, mine was installed after 3 1/2 weeks.. helps knowing people in the adsl department :)

I made an application on the 9th of July for ADSL... I have still not been given an installation date.

The b@stids...

I'm in Emmarentia, Jo'burg and given the same cr@p. Ordered on the 15th of July.. been given a date of 21st October but it prob won't be in then yet me guesses :P According to the Telkom ADSL Supper Center (0800 DSL DSL) I connect to the PKV exchange which I presume stands for Parkview

Okay, it's 1 o'clocl on the 19'th and still no call from Telkom. Phoned them, the (very nice) lady said she is going to email the technicians and that they are going to contact me today.
