Aus: ADSL2 for ~R400 a month

My word, a mate of mine looking for a provider in aus just came across these:

Basically R400 for a 12Mbps connection with a 10Gb cap, that includes the standard phone rental as well.

And that's in a country where they're having as much trouble with Telstra as we have with telkom.

not all of us do downloads of questionable virtue, but we still like the quick speed (online gaming and normal net use).
 
whether someone has 512 or 192 in s.a your pings are the same

so 512 and 12mbps i doubt you would not see much difference in ping

True, it's not really about latency, I think that's the same for all ADSL connections, but if you look at things like BF2, they're prescribing 256kbps minimum. How long before even that's not enough?

Jon Carmack is talking about future "dumb terminal" games, where the server basically just streams the game video to you, everything else runs on the server. That's oodles of bandwidth.
 
Yeah, 10GB seems a bit pointless for a 12MB line - most things requiring 12Mbps bandwidth (video) will take up alot of bandwidth so it sort of defeats the point of 12Mbps.
 
If you need a bigger cap go for it. It's an extra AUS$20 (~R100) to upgrade to a 20Gb cap, or AUS$20 more than that for a 40Gb cap. So basically R600 / month for 12Mbps/ 40Gb. The fact that it includes the land line just does it for me :P
