HomeDSL 384 Running at 450+ kbps

I recently changed ISP from TelkomInternet to Axxess and suddently my maximum combined download rate jumped up to over 450kbps according to the Telkom speed test at http://www.telkom.co.za/minisites/dsl/speed1.html. That agrees with my local net monitor applications that clock it at up to 55kBytes/sec (multiple simultaneous downloads from international sites).

Since I only have a 384kbps DSL line, how can this be happening?
 
lets hope it stays that way!!!!!!!!
Could also be that Axxess is in PE (The Friendly City).
 
everybody I know, including myself, is getting 512k speed on 384k. In fact Id even go so far as to say that I get between 60-70k/s on my 512k line from 2 weeks ago.

Not complaining yet ;p

Count yourself lucky. The only time I got 512 speeds was a few weeks ago when everyone's speeds increased for a short period. Before and after that I average about 35-39k/s on 384.

My speeds stayed exactly the same even when I moved over from Telkom to Web Africa.
 
I know of quite a few people getting much faster speeds, on my 192k line I max out at 33k/s which technically is a 256k+ line.
 
same here.... and my torrent downloads were flying down at max. speed this morning... nice change :)
 
well edonkey is goin at 25 from early this morning dunno it hasnt been working for a long time and now its flying

Also got the 384K but when they came to install and test yesterday there measurement gave it as a 512k line. :).
 
also on 384 and my average for peak and offpeak is 52KB/ps. 'DU meter' has often recorded speeds of over 250KB/ps, but that's not for long, obviously.
 
I'm on 192kb/s and usually get nothing less than 32kB/s and peaking to 50ish
