Age of Empires 3 - Release Date Announced

Yeah - I can't for this game. I think this is the game that is going to do to RTS's what Battlefield 1942/BF2 did to multiplayer FPS gaming...

PS: That's the US release date, so we will get it about 1-3 weeks later.

geez... similar release date as FEAR and a couple of other titles, lets hope it plays as good as it looks... thanks for the links Kaltor! :)

well, I have been begging for a decent RTS for a couple of years now.

The release occurs just after my exams!!! What a pleasure ;P

I just hope I have my ADSL by then. I will most certainly have to make use of a VPN or an unshaped package to play this on DSL.

Any idea what type of PC is needed to run this game at its best settings?

most likely nothing special. Most RTS games don't require heavy graphics. Take for example warcraft 3, it works on most machines even with o/b graphics. Ram is an issue tho.

best setting would be like
P4 2ghz/ AMD 2800+
512mb ram
geforce 4/ ati radeon 9250

The current RTS games like Act of War and Dawn of War do require hefty video cards.

The future RTS games which are coming down to us will also push the envelope a bit : take Earth 2160, Black & White 2, Company of Heroes just to name a few...

Unlike previous RTS games, a lot of effort is being put into AOE3's graphics. ES's goal is to make AOE3 the best looking game ever (including FPS games), so I expect the system requirements (in terms of graphics) to be similar to those of recently releases FPS games.

There has been lots of speculation on the various AOE3 boards about the system specs. Here's an excerpt from the http://aoe3.heavengames.com/ forums....

"The estimated "recommended" specs computer (i.e. guaranteed lag free on 800x600 with low settings
Intel Pentium 4 2.0GHz/AMD Sempron/Athlon 2200+ or equivalent CPU

ouch... now we get yet another game that really needs 2GB of RAM... eish...

*dials Santa for Xmas request*

The game is really looking awesom... and in fact many of the games coming out for the xmas hols are looking great. apparently, AOE3 is gonna have better graphics than Doom3. Will see bout that.

In the mean time, for the RTS fans,i recommend giving Stronghold 2 a try. I was very impressed. Awesom game and with very good graphics.

Well Medium settings is not too bad nor is "Max" settings...remember for BF2 you need 2GB RAM to run it "optimually".

I rate any "proper" gamer should at least have, at the minimum, be able to play AOE3 on "High"

i wonder how much it will cost? i remember i paid R499 for AOE2

I paid R500 for Rise of Nations  . Does anyone know why M$ games are so over-priced here?

They can't compete with Megarom or WWE (no, not World Wrestling Entertainment! :p )
