BIS vodacom activation of features??

So i just got my BB 9700 in White from vodacom:D. Im totaly satisfied but I just am abit confused as to how this whole BIS thing works. They told me it will only be activated from the 1st of Sept. Does this mean Im limited with features on the phone till then? I mean i cant set up email at all. I dont see any App download/ Manager available. And if I try open up an IM or watever it says that my device is not activated. Will I have to do a software upgrade at the end of the month for these features to come onto my phone? Thanks
 
Why on earth can your BIS only be activated on 1 Sep... Total BS! You won't have to do any upgrade, everything should work once BIS is activated.
 
I havnt the slightest clue. The guy says that because I was previously on an iPhone plan it can only be migrated at the end of the month:confused:

Congrats - I'm holding my new black 9700 in my hands. :D Going to try and figure out BIS now - bought it prepaid so haven't done anything yet.
 
hey saunj09, out of interest, were still within your iphone contract and requested to change plans before 2 years was up, or did you come to the end of your 2 year iphone contract and now you're migrating?
 
Well iv migrated from my iphone 120s that was due for upgrade to a blackberry talk 100.
 
Thanks. My wifes sitting in the middle of her iphone contract but she wants to migrate to a BB package...I thought if you were in the same boat you might have had some info on what things cost to migrate in the middle of the contract. She'll pop into a voda store and find out, thanks.
 
That's ganna be quite an expense hey. They basicly from what I understand charge you the remainder of the balance on the contract. So if she's gt 12 months left u ganna pay ur monthly bill x 12. Probly cheaper to just buy a phone outright and add BIS to the current plan
 
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. She can sell her 3GS and buy a decent BB. Thanks mate!

without your BIS services nothing will work except standard phone functionality like making a call and sms. You wont even be able to send a mms as AFAIK.
 
hey saunj09, I activated BIS myself yesterday. Log onto vodacom.co.za.
Click on My Vodacom -> My Services
On LHS, click Blackberry
BIS is listed under BES and you can activate from there. It took about 2 & 1/2 hours yesterday for mine to get activated.
 
I tried and there is no such option. Iv phoned vodacom and asked them to activate again explaining how i just want the BIS activated. But no:) "You are currently on an iPhone package and the system wont allow me to activate it for you". This may be true, I dno if u guys noticed this lol but vodacom LOVES to blame it on the "System"
 
Try to ask them for a bolt on BIS package on a month-to-month basis. I got my BB about two weeks before my BB contract started. Couldn't access internet, so Vodacom loaded the bolt on BIS. Was charged pro-rata also. You may be able to do so as well to access the internet. I was on a Talk240, so not sure about the iPhone package.
 
hey saunj09, my wife's just been sitting at vodacare and checking what her options are moving from an iphone contract to BB while she's in the middle of her current contract. She relayed concerns about not being able to activate BIS (as per your experience here). The guy explained to her that the Vodacom system will not allow BIS to be activated if the "Iphone APN" (standard activated service on iphone contracts) is currently active. In order to activate BIS on the contract, he would need to first remove the Iphone APN service, then add the BIS service.

I would ask whoever you're dealing with to make these changes so you can activate BIS now.

No success:( I got the APN deactivated but still gives error to the people over the phone when trying to activate BIS
 
If you really want to play with your new phone why not stick a PAYG sim in there, activate BIS online, and use that for the rest of the month?

Lol my iPad still does that job. Just is quite annoying when im out of the house or something. Thanks for the suggestion tho. BTW im not ganna open a new thread for this. But is there a way for me to create a wireless network with the blackberry so that i can connect my iPad to it and teether the internet?
 
saunj09, I assume since 1 September you're up and running?

Incidentally, after two visits to vodacare and confirming with the service rep there that removing iphone APN and adding BIS was a simple procedure that would take a max of 30 minutes to activate, I bought my wife a new 9700. She went into the same vodacare this morning to make the changes. Nope, same story as you. Must migrate from iPhone package to BB package. They are so full of ****. There's clearly no training of staff. After reading your hassles we clearly relayed the story to the guy, and he was adamant, it's not an issue. Now, we go in after buying a BB 9700 outright cash, and there's a whole different story.

Best case scenario is migrate on 01/10/2010 - another 3 weeks to wait...fkn frustrating!!!!!
