from EradicatE (http://www.hellkom.co.za/vent/index.php)

Hey all,

I'm going to be doing an 'artistic intervention' in Cape Town as part of a project and I need the help of all you anti-telkom people...

the intervention involves wrapping up a public phone booth in brown paper for the duration of the day tomorrow (23/08/2005).

Here's where you guys come in if you wish to volunteer. I want to have this phone booth constantly ringing...
So if you could dial one of the three numbers sometime between 08:00 and 16:00 tomorrow it would be much appreciated. It won't cost anything - the phone will not be answered. Dial as many times as you like and leave it ringing for as long as you want.

the numbers are:
021 4264780
021 4265725
021 4265681

Thanks in advance to anyone who partakes in this.

I am obviously not artistic enough. Can somebody explain what the 'statement' is - or is it one of those 'what does it mean to you' things.

in order to answer the phone you have to break the art. Or, its a ringing that compels you to answer yet you are then awestruck by a phone booth wrapped up in a package. It evokes a response in you which is what art should do. If you're near the demo, then go have a look and see what it stirs up in you.

Hey all.

I'm glad this project of mine is sparking some interest. Here's a bit of a background to it. I am an art student and for a project we had to perform a "curative intervention" somewhere on our campus. As has previously been explained, I wrapped the public phones up like parcels and organised for them to ring all day. This can be read on many levels - disrupting communication, screwing with telkom's services, seeing the reactions of people to a ringing phone that cannot be answered without destroying "art". My main aim really was to just cause a bit of a chaotic spectacle - make something ordinary behave out of the ordinary. Im going to be getting pics tomorrow that I can show you guys aswell as a small video which I'll try get online.

Thanks to everyone who called in.

Hi guys,

EradicatE has a pic of this phone booth demo, along with a 5MB video. Need someone that's willing to offer some space to host them, so you guys can take a look.
