Also amazing how the headline omits that it a gurl, when really that's the crux of the matter.

you right it is lame.. i mean i guess i can go out one night with my friends and use our firearms to threaten ppl into blindfolds and ziptie them; then we can take a nice group picture and post it on facebook under the status update "what i did last night'
It's the Guardian what else do you expect?

I shouldn't have looked, and then I followed several blogs and saw and read more.
Good, I never forget an image once I've seen it, I'm a silent witness to the reality of what it is to be human, the truth is obvious, humans are capable of extreme cruelty, debasement and horrifying terror, not only in times of war or strife, but barbarism lurks just below the fine line we like to call being civil.
I do not and I never will underestimate mankind. I fear man above all else in the known universe.
The cycle of violence and counter violence, and revenge killings will not stop for many decades to come, it will increase and it is our childrens future.
There is no quick fix either, psychopathy (now called sociopathy and no longer considered a mental disorder - as it has become so widespread), is on the rise, not only in war, not only in the Middle East or Africa, but everywhere where there is poverty, lack of education, extreme indoctrination, huge gaps between the wealthy and the poor, where there is lawlessness, corrupt governments and ordinary people who have no civil leadership.
The world is in trouble and few care, many think it will never happen where they live, but as resources dwindle, populations swell, as parents neglect their children or abuse them, discard them, as poverty to the masses creeps ever closer and the earth itself becomes poisoned by 7 billion humans consuming, trashing, polluting and living it up as if there will be no consequences, our global mental state deteriorates.
Cruelty is on the rise, barbarism lurks just beneath the thin veneer we call modern society.
The sad part of all this is, that there is no escape hatch, because if there was, I would be the first to leave, and if possible I would go where no other man can follow me, and that is why I support the space program with passion, it is the only possible escape hatch, though to be realistic, it is us, ourselves, each one of us, that carry the possibility of extreme violence within us, because all of this, is what man is.
We are hardly civil, yet some of us strive to be humane, benevolent, kind and loving, to be civil and to care, but the more of us there are(global population), the more difficult this becomes.
I am ashamed of humanity.
Do not misunderstand me, I also acknowledge the goodness, the possibilities, those who are civil and educated, and have empathy, I also celebrate the goodness and creativity of man, but we are diabolical lifeforms and our progress on a psychological state is not at all as progressive as our technological advancement and innovation.
There is no trophy here, just terrible disappointment.

The beheadings by the Muslim radicals are no better than the barbarism taking place during (and since) Roman times. Neither are the actions by many modern nations.
