 Hello, so this is it.
No fast action games on 3G. FACT!?
I have ping times of 450-999ms for all of my internet games.
(COD,MOH,C&C,FARCRY ...)
So should i switch to MMORPG'S now. If so, then which ones are good and/or free.
It sucks having slow ping times on 3G, i have to start shooting 2 seconds in advance before i see the emeny. I once had 6 kills in Medal of honour using grenades and my 6th sense. And 53 deaths.
Is there nothing to be done, I'm getting fustrated and depressed of been kicked from gaming rooms because of my slow ping time.
I have 2-3 bars on my vodafone dashboard and can download at high(300Kbs) speeds.
Does it make such a big difference if you have full signal strength?
What ping times should I expect from 3G(Vodacom).

BennieB, you won't get faster ping times than you're already seeing. At best on the local network, you'll get around 350ms and to international sites in the high hundreds.

BBSA,
I see, but its not only online games that suffer. Your whole internet experience would be better if you have better latency on your connection. I see people complaining about Voice over IP, i.e. SKYPE, Video conferencing and multimedia streaming. All of these are certainly an integral of having a broadband connection. I understand if the technology doesn't allow for it, but I must admit that it is a major draw back for wireless technologies. This problem will be highlighted much more in the future as the internet becomes more and more multimedia orientated and interactive.
Do all 3G networks suffer from this problem? Can it be fixed with new technologies?

BennieB,
I agree totally, I do a lot of work via VPN and better latency will help me also a lot.

Regarding "fast action online games": I just do not thing 3G was designed for that, but there is other Wireless solutions which is better suited for that.

Packet loss is more of a contributing factor to service degradation than latency gents.

U can always try "World of Warcraft" - there are a few free servers in SA - I'm currently using blackstorm.co.za - Cheers - SW
