Hi guys,

I know that I might just be pushing my luck here. Perhaps this is not the right forum to discuss this but if you are able to help that'll be much appreciated.

I am hopelessly dependant on task managers. I recently subscribed to Remember The Milk, I received email reminders via email but NOT via SMS. Vodacom is listed on the RTM site as one of the providers which support email-to-SMS service. I spent almost 20mins with two different call center agents and what a WASTE of time it was...

Thanks!

Well i know RTM, but i moved all my stuff to Google. You do know Google Calendar works just fine with the whole SMS reminders/alerts ?

To set up the SMS stuff in Google (maybe use it to test) :
In order to use this service, you'll need to register your cell phone number in Google Calendar. Just sign in, click Settings on the top-right of the page, and go to the Mobile Setup tab

However , RTM is a bit eaiser with the tasks though, but i can create events just as quickly as tasks on Google Calendar etc.

As for RTM, i'm unfortunately with MTN and well no luck with that in there. Google however supports MTN,Vodacom and Cell-C ....

Yeah, just use a calendar. I sync mine with outlook.

Thanks diabolus, just a quick check:

  • The Tasks on Google make no provision for a "specific time" you would like to be reminded of the task?
  • The ONLY way to add a "time" to a "task" is to create an Event instead? This allows you to set a specific time.

I have received my first reminder SMS this morning. This should cater for my needs, at least for now. Thanks again.

Yes, that's right. Everyone is eagerly awaiting Google to "fix" the Tasks so you can do that. But yes, you'll have to make an Event at this stage. Ultimately if you were going to specify a "reminder time" for a Task you might as well create an Event, it would take equally as long.

I've mentioned this before on many threads and too sick to go into details but here is a summary:

Vodacom does not pass on any bulk sms requests (MTs) from international carriers where the sender from ID has been manipulated. If RTM tries to do this, then the requests (MTs) will be discarded by the network.

ie They send using a German carrier (Network) and change the sender from ID to "Remember The Milk". This request will not go through.
