M-PESA mobile money transfer service launched

Great Product! It's about a year late coming to market... in fact it was already on the books long before the other players brought theirs to market. I first heard about it early 2009.

... and as I am both a Vodacom and Nedbank customer... it will suit me just fine! :)
 
Can I transfer money to my "account" without having to go to some kind of outlet? If not fail...

Either way, mobile based banking is great. Now we need these systems to work together- no more proprietary limitations.

The more competition the better... and it is not necessarily who is first... but whose product works better and is more appealing to the masses. I guess we shall see.

Better service is also a factor, of course, but being first has the greatest impact. Nobody really cared when Axxess launched uncapped, but when MWEB was first to introduce it into the market it was huge news. Nobody cares that Axxess now has R 19/GB accounts, but it was huge news when Afrihost was first to introduce R 29/GB last year. FNB was also first to launch PayPal in SA, once their exclusivity agreement is over (if this even exists?) and other institutions start offering it, it would have been old news already and the impact of the announcement won't even be half as great.

And yes, the more competition the better! :)

Sorry, but Mweb was not the first to launch uncapped into the market... far from it.
