iPhone 3GS Stolen and how Mobile Me helped

Friday 19th August between 8:45-9:30AM my phone goes missing from
where my company was having a conference




I inform the hotel manager and my companies HR about what happened.
Not knowing if I had mobileme enabled, I try to locate but the phone is switched-off which normally means its a goner.

I send out a command to lock the phone and to display a message on the phone to return it. having everything is such a hugh invasion of privacy on your phone.

Saturday 20th August at 2:00PM

The thief switches my phone and connect after i recon changing the EMEI number.
MobileMe surprisingly pics up the phone and locks it with a pin and displays a message.




MobileMe also gets the last known location at 2:10PM

And show that the last known location was here




I then drove out to find the phone or at least locate the address


The GPS coordinations could be off slightly which leave the drug rehabilitation clinic next door
or the house in-front.

Its now the 31 August and the police have still to go out, I've logged a case
done everything to do it legally, what should I do next.

At least my personal info is out of reach and the phone is prob reinstalled

Had my phone stolen earlier this year. E71 1 month old... Know the feeling.

Mobile me.. need to come with a remote detonation self destruct function. :wtf:

Oh yeah. Maybe some spikes which pop out of the phone!! (like Tank Girl)

Awesome story! Was thinking about getting this the other day after my phone was nearly jacked!

Is it still giving out the location (has it moved)?
I would go to the police station and ask them to check their records of the address to see if it is 'known'.
Maybe they can get a search warrant.

I have engaged with the police but as they say its only a phone and they will get to it :-(

This technology is great but I don't think that you are going to get the police to cooperate so is it all worthwhile ?

I could have risked it and not locked it but did not want the thief to access my personal data so I then decided to just lock and display a message if i did leave it on i could possible still track the phone but it had risk for me.

I wish I could have self destructed the phone

Yeah, that seems to be the consensus. I would camp out at the police station and get very chatty with the desk sergeant. Maybe nag a detective or two reminding them of the urgency and value of the phone.
