who uses a Wireless Transmitter to transmit photos directly to PC?

I would like to know, who uses a Wireless Transmitter to transmit photos directly to PC at shoot?

What is your experience with this?
i.e. let's say I want to send my photos directly to my PC so that my partner could process the photos while I'm still busy with the photoshoot. How effective does this work? For a Canon 50D the wireless transmitter could cost about R16K, which is a lot of money. Is it really worth it?
 
The part in between where I pull the card from my camera and where I push the card into the card reader, is totally wireless ;)

I saw those, but don't want to spend the money if it doesn't even work, and then try and get it back to the suppliers at my own cost.

Hands down the 1DMk3, and yes, I'm waiting for the Eye-Fi to be delivered.
 
You can always use the USB cable that came with your camera and just get a USB extension at a computer shop and use that to shoot tethered.
Went to a shoot on thursday and thats how the photographer shot: Canon 5d mk11 > USB cable > USB extension cable > Macbook > Samsung monitor
It depends on what your shooting, he was shooting food so the camera was on a tripod and he wasn't moving around alot so the cable wasn't a problem...

USB cable doean't reach 50m - 100m ;) And I can't see myself lugging a 30m USB cable on the sports fields walking after the action either.

It's a SD card so it might be problematic for you with a 50D. I don't have a lot of faith in the SD/CF converters.

For my 7D I've opted to use a couple high speed CF cards and a FW800 reader then just hot swap them.
 
Feeling adventurous yesterday I took my camera equipped with an eye-fi and my iPad to the cricket and left the laptop in my car. I didnt attempt any editing, though it would have been easily possible using the photoshop app.

I had to use my iPhone as a wireless hotspot otherwise the ipad wouldn't see the eye-fi card so that something I'm going to have to work on so I had to switch networks to use the wifi at the grounds to upload to flickr.

Considering the interest in the card I might import a bunch and sell them to my fellow camera men :D

Compared to?

It takes time for me to fish the card out of the camera and import my photos whereas in as little as 5 seconds after selecting the image on my camera its imported into Aperture, or in this case iPad. :)

Jailbroken. With any luck the wifi hotspot feature announced on the new Verizon iPhone will be available across the board on iOS 4.3

I thought about a MiFI but my old iPhone 3G does the job nicely.

Funny thing is I don't need it when I connect my laptop, just when I want to use the ipad with the card. Hopefully an update will take care of that soon.
 
I ahve given this some thought too, and at the moment I cannot really see the point of using the Eye-Fi other than saving the time to d/load. Where I really would like to see it working is when I do trackdays and the girlie in the pits can get the pix as I take them, so by the times the blokes gets off the bikes the pix are on the screens.... Pity tho that the distances out at the track does not allow this.....
