Windows Phone 7 in South Africa by the end of 2010

I've played around with the Dev Emulator and I must say, it is quite cool.

Love the Dev tools that MS have released. Expect to see a lot of quality apps coming for this platform.
 
Microsoft will have to come with a very unique and very convincing angle to get people off their Apples, Androids and BlackBerries. In SA they will have to offer what the other aren't. A full access music store and a large 99c/app-type app market comes to mind ... (there is a gap in SA, but will MS get it?)
 
I'd like to see the SDK for this OS. That might be quite interesting. MS has a lot of dev tools out there - if one can port an app by just selecting a Win7 mobile OS and recompiling they might have something - but I doubt it.
 
Give us in SA full music and application access and we may turn away from the others that don't care about the South Africa market (requiring rooting and account hacking to get what we paid for and am more than happy to pay for).
 
It's great to see that they're releasing so soon in SA, usually takes quite a while for them to be released here.
As far as what I've read, XBOX Live and Zune will be released in all countries that will have Phone 7 so in that case we will have 99$c song purchases and something even better - the Zune Pass. At the moment it's $15 for unlimited music streaming + 10 MP3's to keep for life. So you can stream whatever music you want straight onto your Phone / computer as well as download 10 of them per month, an amazing deal!

If it is anything like the disaster that was Windows Mobile 6... stay well away!
 
I'm looking forward to this. I have a year old HTC Touch Pro 2 which still works like a rock, but WinMo 6.5 is really feeling outdated now. The ability to sync media onto WP7 using the Zune software is a great thing for me, as I have a huge podcast library in the Zune software.

WP7 has its shortcomings for sure, but I think that with the marketing budget behind it, it could prove to be a big challenger. Time will tell, but I am optimistic.

There's very little if anything at all that makes this more attractive than the current offerings.

My last 3 phones have been Windows Mobile. Looking at the list of missing features there is no way I will consider buying a Windows phone again.

I'm feeling the same way, but opposite - I used WinMo from the iPaq days, to a few years ago with my Tytn2. I went over to an iPhone, and it's feeling like I felt with my TyTn - interface is old and bland, want something new - can't wait for WP7. I dabbled in Android with the HTC Hero, but it felt way too much like oldskool WinMo for my liking.

The missing features don't bother me much - nothing there that will really affect my day to day operations, and I'm betting MS will aggressively push the updates and features once V1.0 goes live. They just want a stable base out there ASAP, to build on.

I don't think so.

I feel we are still in the very beginning of the mobile phone OS wars.

There is still no "Must Have" OS out there. But it will come.
 
I will give it a miss until all the "missing features" are patched in later and the Microsoft marketplace has grown abit more.

It is based on WPF and Silverlight. So, if you have the skills you can develop anything for it.
