Telkom – Is there anything else I can do for you today sir?

I just had a call from Telkom enquiring (“updating their records”) about one of our ADSL lines that we cancelled a couple of months back, at the end he asked the usual “Is there anything else I can do for you today sir?”

I could not help myself and said “Can you lower your prices” then small snigger. Long silence on the other end, then with nervous laugh “Sorry sir I can not do that”.

Well I tried and he did ask…
 
Probably, I did get the distinct feeling he had heard that one before and seemed a bit frustrated with his employer as well.
 
Poor bloke. Doing his best, had a long day. Just trying to be polite and he gets a MyADSL member on the line ;)
 
Hahahha I did the same, the phoned to offer me ADSL...

"No thanks, I use a different service already"
"Oh.. I see... Well is there anything else we can interest you in"
"Lower prices?"
"Uh... Thank you, good bye"
 
Thats the amazing thing nowadays

So often I have contacted Telkom, or they have me and the person on the other side is polite and to a certain degree helpful, which helps them in no way since 99% of the time its a call do with a telkom-esk problem, and within 5 short minutes I find myself frustrated and wanting to hurt my phone ...
 
One thing I noticed ... they NO LONGER ask "How may I provide you with excellent service" .... Maybe they realized that their service is not so excellent

LOLOL!! I did exactly the same thing! They called me on Monday evening to find out if I wanted the FREE answering service.. "No.. definately not, thanx".. "Is there anything else I can do for you sir?" "Yeah, could you please bring your prices down?" Silence..

I noticed that too....they have replaced it with another phrase. It was something about making my day better. (Or something like that) I actually picked the guy out about it just 2 days ago. I told him to tell his boss not to make him say something so stupid to a client who is irrate because Telkom has messed up yet again. Poor guy didn't know what to say.
 
I think the silence was because the guy couldn't find the question with the answer on his paper that he read to you (101 telesales)
 
Believe it or not they just called me again. This time to offer me the “free” call answer service.
Needless to say I politely declined considering I do not even have a phone plugged into the jack (only the ADSL router plugged in).
Then gave her the ADSL is to expensive routine again.
“But sir the ADSL prices did come down on 1 August”.
“Yes I know but not by nearly enough and what about more speed and bandwidth?”
No she does not know when prices are coming down again…

Oh well hopefully every little bit of resistance against the evildoers helps.

Here's a good one, ask them how do you fax with ADSL after switching from dial up.
Some of the technicians firmly believe it's possible... hehe.
 
this is something they asked me about to ..... does this mean that a fax machine does not work on an ADSL line? Do the signals interfere with each other ?
 
Wow some people are quite clever here in the forum, all you do when you switch to Adsl from dial up and want to make use of a fax facility to receive faxes is get a program called castelle, which converts the fax into electronic format which you can then read on your screen.

And dont say thats impossible cos i work for a company that does that.

I have used a fe of these programms before but that was on a dial up and it worked real well

I have to ask is on the adsl line if you have a fax machine why would it work and then with the "castelle" programms do they not work either
 
Missing the point!

Boyz, you can use your fax facility and broadband at the same time, it's exactly thesame as if you were making a phone call and surfing at the same time.
ADSL and Voice calls are on different frequencies and hence when you use a filter (frequency splitter) you are able to talk/fax and surf at the same time, so the Hellkom Techie was correct.
 
Wtf, obviously you can fax at the same time my ADSL line used to be just for faxes, now it does both, erm, you do need a filter though
