There have been a few threads on these topics, with dozens of suggested apps.
I find the Google gadget Net Meter (to download through the Google Desktop) to be particularly accurate and pretty, but it does mean you have to install the Google Desktop which is not everyone's cup of tea. Very easy to reset anytime you have done a manual check of your remaining data balance and want to start counting again. No provision for monthly limits or anything that fancy though.
For that you need something like the good standalone freebie Tautology Bandwidth Meter which despite its terrible name, works fairly flawlessly and is customisable to suit your setup. There are plenty of other freebies out there which will do the job, from simple data monitors to apps which will analyse and even block specific types of data use.

Get yourself a Draytek router.
Only router i know of that has Bandwidth monitoring....

LOL..... there are a lot of routers switches and applications that can do it. But for free or how much are you wiling to spend is another matter.
If your looking at monitoring between 1-20 users and dont want to install software on pc's go for GFiwebmonitor. Use static ip addresses.
But the truth is that there is often a reason for cheap solutions. 1 its really not that good. 2 you need to know your way around open source scripting.
If you want to monitor bandwith with ease get a Mikrotik RB500 and get some one to set it up for you. Should cost you not more that R1000.00 with RB and setup.

Noticed that my router is SNMP capable, any recomendations of apps to track usage of specific machines?
