interesting stuff these guys are researching/developing :D

And you all miss the really crappy graphics chip it uses. Renders it useless for games or anything 3D. The design I find dull aswell. I wouldn't buy it. The site also looks cheesy. Although I did find a few things interesting....namely the solid state HDD, and the fast processor. I wonder if we will ever see any benches on this system, to compare with other processors.

If this is not a joke, then it is certainly a big step forward.

In the mean time, one of these should do:

Just follow wamatt's "Online scam Verifier 1.0":

use of science words (quantum, nano etc): YES!
no contact info: YES!
unbelievable/impossible claims: YES!
appeal to an authority: YES! (CES2006)

Scam score: 100% fake.

There ya have it folks.. soz to disappoint ;p. There are however solidstate notebooks - drives but they hella pricey. Largest is about 16GB http://www.bitmicro.com/products_edisk_35_ide.php

luckily we will be stuck with Windows 2010 to make it nice a sluggish again. ;p

The one you posted is example of investor fraud. You really have to watch out for stuff aimed at consumers: such as www.go-l.com much more believable and professional but a scam none the less.

It doesn't say if it is or isn't a hoax. Just that it most likely is.

well the US patent they have for this technology is defintely real:

do a search for US patent 5,841,689 at the US patent website

At any rate here's a link which includes the email of the CEO of Atom Chip, he's the guy that registered the above patent who feels like emailing him? I can't help but think some of this may be true.

Here's what I just sent:

Hi Shimon

Greetings from Johannesburg. Details of a laptop apparently designed by your company Atom Chip as seen at http://atomchip.com/_wsn/page4.html have been under discussion at a forum here in SA, http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=26736&page=1&pp=15

So now were trying to figure out if this laptop is a hoax or not. I’d really appreciate your comments as regards the validity of the specs that are claimed and would greatly appreciate your comments in the above mentioned thread of the forum.

Thanks in advance for your response.

This technology is real!

All additional public information will be released only at the СES-2006. American corporations (only members of CEA) can receive additional information earlier. For this purpose the Confidentiality Agreement (certified by a notary) must be mailed to the Atom Chip Corporation address.

Have you followed the links on the page?

They will be at CES2006 in January Next year

http://cesweb.org/attendees/show_floor/product_locator/product_details.asp?prodid=5420

Not saying it is real yet because things did become fishy along the way but I still think there is a chance of it being real.

meh.... but the fact that 2gb is the max you can get for a memory stick, and that gigabyte have only just released one day ram (with the battery, blah de blah, every one knows how to search for this stuff), all i'm saying is i don't believe this is for real, and if it is their plan to make it happen, they're being to god-damn optomistic

1TB RAM - wat the f$%k u gona do with all that, or sorry wat cant u do with all that!

alot :)

photoshop.

this is how RAM gets killed.

I load windows lets say 100MB

i load photoshop 80Mb

I load an image (a big one) 100Mb

The moment i do something we add another 100Mb for an undo action

So a 5 step process = 380Mb ram taken.

Now add a couple more graphic apps and it ads up to about +- 1Gb ram

hrm yeah nevermind you right wtf do i need 1TB ram heh :)

Well does that have to be RAM?

I havent looked at it much, but can the technology just be used to make ultra small hard drives? And flash cards, huge MP3 players etc in the future..

What I'm just wondering is, how the hell did they manage to get windows XP, which is 32-bit, to use 1TB of memory???

and it's been so long since the claims were made, i'm sure we would have heard a bit more about this stuff by now.

Whose spamassassin is giving that score? I don't trust mweb's scanning one bit, but I think they use NAV-Gateway (another product I don't trust one bit).
