BEST DG834G V2 settings..Firmware

I had a hi rate of retransmissions and ping packets lost up to 90% on testing with USA sites. I started looking into the matter and found new beta firmware for modem. Installed.. and the system improved to 70% lost packets during tests. No problem getting to sites. Uploading improved from 120-130 average to 330 constant. Downloading is also more constant but not the best 330 with peaks to 425. I played with MTU and TCPRW settings but now I battle to link to some sites previously ok with high packet losses. With packet size of 1452I achive zero ping losses (ping -f -l 1452 www.dslreports.com ) when MTU max is set. Between DrTCP02 and TcpOptimizer I find differences in setting reporting and when I used the optimiser I lost linking to the USA site completely to a degree (Microsoft were ok). I had to do a restore to get back. Now I am stuck. Where do they differentiate between MaxMTU and MTU settings Would Max MTU of 1480 automatically calc to a MTU of 1452 or is there another trick.
Please advise ????? IT techies......

Lost Packets has nothing to do with your modem unless you are talking about the wireless link from your PC to your modem.

lost packets from your pc to router or from your router to the internet? I'm gonna assume the internet, if so why are you testing MTU with a US server?

You should calculate your MTU with the computer at the gateway of your ISP because you can almost guarantee every router from that point to the destination can handle any packet size you can send. If the packets are getting fragmented its happeneing somewhere between your PC and the gateway.

MaxMTU and MTU are the same thing, from what I've read MaxMTU is just the name of the registry key. Basically windows RAS connections will use your MTU registry settings from your registry as apposed to auto discovery.

What registry key are you editing anyway? Check this key for MTU:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\[AdapterID]

Lastly what is your receive window set to?
