I am looking for a notebook wifi card, 11g or 11b with an external antenna jack on it. any one know of any good ones? i have been looking at the SL2511EXT2 from miro but if possible would like the 54mb speed. should just buy UPS and use wrt54g ;) on the roof for site surveys.

If you have a free slot for a Mini-PCI Card, thats the way to go.
A friend of mine put a CM9 Mini-PCI card in his laptopn, which supports 802.11a, b and g. Yes, its a 5Ghz card too!
Works great!

He got the card from Uniterm Direct (he works there now) http://www.dbg.co.za
Yes, it works great under linux using the MadWifi drivers.
It has a UFL jack on the card, so he had a UFL to SMA pigtail made up, and mounted the SMA connector so it sticks out a little of the side of his laptop. He can screw a little whip antenna on it when he's using it at home or at the office, or he has an assortment of cables that he can screw on it and then attach bigger antennas, such as grids and dishes when he wants to do something a little more interesting ;P
