Bit of hardware, bit more gaming..
Intro :
Love my racing games, totally clueless about the "mechanics" of a car. Same applies to my reallife car, pedals & fuel cap is all I care about. Colin Mcrae '05 for instance, I'll change tyres, stiffen the antiroll bar, rest defaults. GTR, whatever the defaults, that's what I use. Probably need to read GTR Engineer pdf, but I buy the stuff to play, not read manuals or spent hours modding .plr files, changing stuff I know zero about :) Hey, NFSPU I would upgrade all available parts and find some of my upgrades "uninstall" other upgrades :o

Gaming :
Links to good sites out there for racing setups, etc ?

Hardware :
Replaced a Saitek R440 (can't have the kids racing with a keyboard, can we ? ;)) with a Driving Force Pro. Man, best add-on I've done in years. Absolutely *love* this wheel. As for gaming, good sites out there addressing this wheel specifically will be appreciated.

Comments or personal preferences welcome of course...

THe DFP is an awesome wheel. I bought the MOMO racing wheel (black rubber wheel with red metal centre strip). I decided not to "upgrade" as i am quite happy with mine. It doesnt have 900 degrees turning, but what racing car has a lock more than 200 degrees??? Also, the MOMO wheel feels thicker, and the shifting leavers are solid and doesnt get changed accidently when you moer the wheel.

It comes with a 2 year warrantee, which is awesome for a product that get's abused. THe pedals are full of crap and the wheel centre can give problems, but a few fixes soughted this right out :)

My 10c

The Momo also looks thicker to me. Used tennis racket grips to thicken the R440. Not sure about the lever issue. Are you talking stick shifter or levers back of the wheel ?

Im talking about the levers back of the wheel. paddles. I dont use the stick for gears, takes too much split seconds off my shifting times. I use that as hand brake :)

Having a look at the paddles on the DFP...accidental changes seem improbable (to me that is) but I'll take your word for it :) Will try and use the stick as was intended, wish it was swopable to the left though

Yep, the momo is also swappable. For me it counts more for the COOL factor...

I would have loved force feedback brakes. Imagine, the faster you go, the harder it feels. and if you lock up, it just goes in. and abs makes it shudder.. oooooh

mine is on the left, like any normal car should be :)

So far it's only me and u discussing wheels.
Have u tried rFactor? it's actually quite cool...

Im not interested in ai at all. I bought it for online racing, at which it is great! not as bandwidth hungry as GTR, and less glitches. also much more moddable and more formula's for online racing....
So it makes sense u wont get it considering MyWi

Also got me a DFP and its a real nice wheel. Bought GTR and must say after reading up on it and swatting other ppl's templates and so forth I still am struggling to find a nice racing setup for me. My alltime favourite racing game is still Sports Car GT.

As console games go GT4 & the DFP works well together -- much more for fun for me than GTR.

I found GT4 crap man... sorry. It is a pretty version of GT3... after waiting so many years, i was too dissapointed. dont get me wrong, if you new to GT, then it's awesome....
ALso, they claim to be a simulator... with no damage? they claim to have realistic offroad?? have you ever tried playing richard burns rally? that is real (and amazing)...

IM not flaming, just very dissapointed that i waited so many years for a sequel EA could have improved more on...

once you touch RBR, you will NEVER play CMR,,, so finish that first. RBR was the most enjoyable sim i ever played... And you will drool over the FFB feel :)

One tip... DO RALLY SCHOOL with rbr first. if not, you will hate the game...
There is no better feeling than going 160km/h in japan where the trees are 4 meters apart and the road is bumpy....
*nrg_wp thinks "when are they gonna release a sequel"

And don't be shy to post those links either...
Question : Do you keep basically the same setup per game, apart from tyres, or do you fiddle with things like brake bias (wtf ?) gear ratios, etc per stage or track ?

Unfortunately it takes years to understand the mechanics of proper setup of a racing car but some drivers like Kimi Raikonnen utterly depends on his race engineers to do the setup best suited for his driving style while others like Schumi and Coulthard is very closely involved in the process.

You should be able to find the "best" setup on the net for most good racing sims for each circuit in the game.

regarding RAlly games, i do very minumul changes. I would say, quite generic...
for tar, put on slicks, lower the car etc...
rain, put on rain tires etc... very basic...

with tar racing like GTR... TRIAL AND ERROR! practice the track with different setups..
Games like TOCA, i hardly change anything!
