I don't really know the intricate details of it... but from what I can gather, it had writings of gays inside the closet and how they had stood up in the face of adversity.

If you're asking about "Pink Week" in general, it's about accepting gay people in society. Although I do question the wisdom of one of their posters that compares people who don't like gays to Hitler and Mugabe :\

Hitler and Mugabe both are/were very outspoken - in fact grossly discriminatory - against gays so I don't see the problem with the comparison.

Hitler was also outspoken against Jews - does that mean people that oppose Jews regarding Palestine = Hitler ???

I think not !!

Just because one persons oppinion differs from another does not suddenly make that person evil.

I don't like Jehova's Witnesses. Doesn't mean I'm gonna bust out and go all SS Stormtrooper on their a$$es! :D

Ai tog. What a stupid thing to do. I many times think why it is such a difficult thing for some gay people to come out of the closet still....but then I see how closed minded many people still are and how conservative some families behave. Such a nice idea this Pink Closet thing....but what a ugly thing to do to burn it down. Something that might have inspired someone to take control of his/hers life have now become a thing of hate. *sigh*

No. Give them a taste of their own medicine and knock on their doors.

Yes, remember to stick your shoe in the door before they can close it.

Then lecture them on how to write software in Java until they plead for mercy.

They are actually the spreaders and instigators of hate. Just look at the way they act and dress during the idiotic parades and the posters they put up. No wonder we have a problem accepting them. They just cant be and act like normal people. I will start to hate people who compare me to hitler and mugabe.

I understand what you're saying, but I disagree that they're "spreaders and instigators of hate". I have gay friends who are *horribly* embarassed by the image gay parades project, and the harm they do to gays who *do* want to be accepted as "normal people".

Unfortunately, for too many people, one of the first images that comes to mind when someone mentions "gay" is a screaming queen doing shocking things in an even more shocking outfit.

haha, that would be awesome!:twisted::D

Honestly this is sad that they burnt it down. But as an aside I don't like homosexuality . I just think its unnatural. However that don't mean that 'you' don't have to be gay, that's your right. I respect your right to be gay jus respect my right to think its disgusting.

Disgusting? As opposed to...? Two women kissing? Or is that also disgusting? Or is the only thing disgusting what gays do in their bedrooms? If that disgusts you, do you think about what every straight person around you does in THEIR bedroom or how they do it? Or is that just a secret obsession? I mean, when two males are together, there's nothing disgusting about that, is there? If two males hug, is that disgusting? If two males kiss? That's disgusting of course, right? Because that crosses some personal boundary of yours? What about two ugly straight people kissing? Is that disgusting as well? What about inter-racial relationships? Is that disgusting too? I mean, really, where do you draw the line?

I think calling love between two people, regardless of any other factors, "disgusting" is insanely narrow-minded and smacks of prejudice regardless of how tolerant you claim to be.

I don't like the idea of two chicks kissing, I don't even like straight people kissing, I don't consider that disgusting though. I just don't like it. Anyone "sucking face" (I don't mind pecks) in public is something I don't want to see--gay, straight, whatever--but I'm not going to say, "Wow, what those people are doing is disgusting!" Nor am I going to say that two females in a relationship or straight people or whatever is "disgusting" because it just doesn't concern, influence or bug me in any way. Love is beautiful, regardless of who shares it.

Disgusting is a morbidly fat person in fishnet stockings and a boobtube. Disgusting is another person's self-righteous sense of bigotry spewed in some sickening way of making themselves feel better about their "tolerance."

I'm sorry, but "I am tolerant, I just think it's disgusting" is the most pathetic an blatant contradiction I've ever read in my life.

Wtf? He just said he does not mind what gay people do. If he finds it disgusting then that's the way he feels.

The though of two guys getting it on in all honesty I find revolting. I don't mind them being gay, it's the way I feel about it and I'm not asking you to deal with it as there is nothing to deal with. You seem to take great offence to how people feel about this yet another forumite (gay) has posed this question before and he did not seem upset with my reply.

I think you have lost the plot here.

I wonder why they calling it a "hate crime" without any evidence? Yes, it probably is a hate crime, but one must be very careful when making that accusation - it could have just as well been a drunk student prank.

Cape Town – A closet that was part of the UCT Campus Pride Pink Week Campaign was set alight and "severely damaged" on Monday night after being on display for less than a few hours, says RainbowUCT, a society that promotes sexual diversity at UCT.

"The Closet, which was positioned on Jammie Plaza from 13:00, was part of a display involving the UCT Campus Pride Pink Week Campaign, an initiative intended to promote LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) rights and highlight homoprejudice across the country," RainbowUCT chairperson Dylan van Vuuren said in a statement released on Tuesday.

The closet, painted pink and presented instances of discrimination and "homoprejudice" across the globe was positioned allowing students and staff members to graffiti the outside with their own responses and views, said Van Vuuren.

"RainbowUCT is deeply concerned about this cowardly act of arson. We are calling for direct action from university management and request an immediate investigation to be launched in a bid to find those responsible for this act.

"We request the university management, including campus protection services, acknowledges that this is a hate crime and indication of a larger problem… which needs to be addressed," he said.

He added that RainbowUCT "wishes to stress that this incident will not dampen our spirits and Pink Week will continue to take place for the duration of the week".

UCT spokesperson Patricia Lucas told News24 that the university was investigating the matter and taking it very seriously.

"The UCT campus protection services staff are treating this incident as a crime and have opened a case of destruction of property," said Lucas.

"RainbowUCT is an official student organisation and Pink Week has the support of UCT. The university supports diversity and encourages an attitude of tolerance towards those of other cultures, languages, religions, beliefs and sexual orientation."

Wtf? He just said he does not mind what gay people do. If he finds it disgusting then that's the way he feels.

He didn't say what homosexuals do is disgusting. He said that homosexuality, in itself, is disgusting.

I respect your right to be gay jus respect my right to think its disgusting.

That is a contradiction.

Being gay is not a right. Just like being black or white or having red or brown hair isn't a right. You cannot change your skin colour just as you cannot change your sexuality.

You cannot logically say that you respect someone for being whatever it is they are and in the next breath say that you find what they are is disgusting. That is a contradiction--that is not respect. That is animosity; it is prejudice.

The though of two guys getting it on in all honesty I find revolting.

And I feel the same way about lesbians and straight people going at it, does that mean I find straight people and lesbians disgusting? No.

I think you have lost the plot here.

Perhaps I have. Have enough people judging something about you that you cannot change and tell me how you feel given enough time.
