Article: Mines should be nationalised to pay for the education: Malema

Mines should be nationalised to pay for the education of university students, ANC Youth League president Julius Malema told students at the University of Limpopo's Medunsa campus in Ga-Rankuwa on Wednesday.

He told the students to loud cheers that one mine could fund students fees at the Medunsa campus alone.

He's going after a clause in the ANC's Freedom Charter from 1950-something, which he hopes will give his demands credibility.

What fatboy doesn't mention is that the Freedom Charter also says:-

The preaching and practice of national, race or colour discrimination and contempt shall be a punishable crime;

If anyone who addressed us when I was a student in the 80's said anything that meant that I did not have to pay for my own varsity fees, I would also have cheered him!!
 
I like julius' idea here. Lets use national resources to better the education with the surplus profits.

We could use... eskom... no, they need bail outs.... SAA... oops, more bail outs.... how about the water... oh wait, crumbling infrastructure there too... how about government department... oh wait, they can bearly afford salary increases....

Somehow I think the mines would go the same way (imagine the power of mine strikers, destroy the rand value in 1 week!)
