Hi,

I am looking at setting up a service for people to play online games overseas. Mainly RPG games like GuildWars and WoW and eventually The Matrix Online.

I am investigating the possibility of hosting a local Socks/Proxy server to facilitate this.

Depending on the amount of people interested decides if I go ahead with this. I am looking to charge people R100 or something similar per month for unlimited GAMING.

Anyone interested let me know.

Thanks
Bobby

Excuse me if i am mistaken, does it not cost R100 to play wow on int servers aswell?
If you do set this up,will the need to play wow on international servers be removed?

This amount which is still up for nagosiation will only be for the bandwidth to get you overseas. You will still need to pay any addition gaming subscriptions over there.

boswald what would stop users to use the connection to download, there is unlimited work arounds which you would not be able to block.

just a thought.

Im sure there are millions of SA players that would sign up 2 this, Me and about 4 of my friends would def sign up to this if it was just R100 a month.

Like I said. This is still in discussion stages. We would need to make sure we can stop people from using it to download. And if someone was found abusing the service they would possibily be banned.

i suppose you could block the FTP and P2P ports, yet people would still find a way... unless you keep a log of the IP assigned to the user and check its route(s) along the proxy, if it deviates from any gaming servers then something is up or rather down(loaded)... ;)

Yeah. Like I said I am still testing the waters.

What do you think is reasonably to play games? If I make it 100mb a day is that enough to play on the weekend? I know for Guild Wars it could be, but if you visit lots of new places maybe not?

Thanks for the feedback so far.

you cant make it gaming only, what you can do is limit accounts based on data sent but you need to make it way more then 100MB if you're looking for 100 bucks from the user because mrbeep already gives a 5gb account for free and nukecap already has a free proxy too.

Yeah. but this is a LOCAL proxy. and the 100mb could possiblity be per day. Or lets say 3gb per month. That should be more than sufficient to play games?

What this means is even if you hit your cap you will still be able to play WoW or Guild Wars?

nukecap has a free local proxy already, anyways you better hurry if you wanna do this plan because you have a month and a half left before hard capping

I'd be intersted in something like this as well as a few friends.

Afraid not, ADSL users get hard capped (no local access) come the 1st of November.

boswald i think the important thing would be, what ping you could offer and what your hosting this on.
