Why did they decide to use a Nikon Lens on a Canon camera???? Thats like buying a Ferrari and replacing the steering wheel with one from Porsche :(

As per the comments... couldn't a crop sensor have been used to get even more distance??
 
I guess he needed the 1700mm end of it - Canon doesn't have anything that long. Or he already had the lens but at some point switched to a Canon body.

More important question: is he compensating for something? ;)
 
What is he photographing? A fly on the bails? I'm assuming he is at the cricket. Don't know why but I am. :o
 
And they're talking about using a 2x converter next time. Should chuck it on a 7D with a 2x converter and see what happens. My maths aint good but that would be one helluva a zoom.
 
1.6x Focal length multiplier for the 7D so 2720mm...
then with the 2x converter....a nice 5440mm:D

It makes perfect sense if he's a canon shooter normally. My friends at Media24 recently had all their Canon gear swapped out for Nikon and they're still battling to get to grips with the differences.

As per the comments... couldn't a crop sensor have been used to get even more distance??

The Canon EOS-1D Mark II N has a 28.7 x 19.1 mm CMOS sensor... not sure bout sizes... is that a cropped sensor? Whats the crop factor?

It's the same as the 1DMk3 and 4 − an APS-H sensor which is a 1.3.

Yes, APS-H. A 1.3× Focal Length Multiplier is also known as APS-H. Actual multiplier factor is 1.25×, though commonly referred to as 1.3×

Full frame would be 36x24mm in 35mm film terms.
