Quite a large portion of people from MyBB tend to dismiss the N8 purely there are reading biased non-objective US reviews (you know very well which sites I am referring to) OR they have limited old experience with Symbian.

Spare a few mins and read Phone Arena's comparison test of the N8 vs the Galaxy S & then the iPhone 4. For a US based site its refreshingly non-biased!

Nokia N8 vs Samsung Galaxy S

Nokia N8 vs Apple iPhone 4

Then add your 2c below, I fully understand every person’s requirement & need of a smartphone is different but for an RRP of 4800 the N8 is something special. #FACT

The iPhone look at least 30% thinner from that review. I choose iPhone as I don't want the N8 camera lens cover in my pocket tearing my pants or scratching me in the crotch.

Dude. Seriously.

The widgets on the Nokia N8 home screen look so 1999 and Nokia should rather have kept the old trusted home screen that they've been using for the last 10 years. These "widgets" just make you realize how old and outdated Symbian as a mobile OS is.

Let's move on. It's 2010.

I think that's a pretty fair assessment of both the Nokia N8 and the iPhone:

Nokia N8 has very compelling extra features, but with the the Retina Display and the fast A4 chipset, the iPhone 4 already has some of the best hardware out there. On top of that, it is all crammed in the thinnest handset on the market, made of designer-grade materials. It also allows you to run some of the slickest programs ever made for a phone. And it is exactly the software, i.e. the overall people-friendly experience that matters most, and that's where Nokia has to play catch up now.

Nice hardware (which Nokia has always done well), but still playing catch up with software. Sounds pretty much the same old story as the past few years, and why Nokia's taken such a pummeling in the smartphone market. Doesn't seem like this is the phone to change that.

I wouldn't buy the N8 purely because it's the last N-series Symbian phone raises concerns about future support for the product. Oh and it's really ugly. Other than that I think it's a pretty decent phone from what I've seen and read. I'd never buy a phone just for the camera. This is why I'm only mildly annoyed that my Galaxy S has no flash.

It's the Nokia naysayers that I think are a bit short-sighted. Nokia is far from being finished.

New Nokias are running Intel chips and the new OS is a lot more open. I real interested to see what's next and would love it if they turn out to be the true iPhone slayers!

Intel chips? Really? I've never heard of any mainstream mobile device running Intel hardware. Link please?

i should be getting my N8 i won on friday or monday, i want to shoot a Doccy about SA on it which was going to be called Day and Night, but that plebb scientologist just 'acted' in a rubbish film by that name so i need a new one lol, il post a mini review :)

Hey Guys,

Was hoping I could get your guys opinions, I'm due for an upgrade in November. Im considering three phones: Nokia N8, iPhone 4 and HTC Desire HD2.

What would you do?

Apparently it would be dumb and idiotic of you not to take the N8...

HTC Desire HD2 hands down.

I have the HTC Desire and it is fantastic! Didn't really even consider the iphone4.

N8 is way way behind the curve in terms of Android.

Thing is,

Im using a 5800 atm, and I LOVE OVI maps and Nokia Sportstracker. Ive also been reading on the Desire and HD2, apparently battery life on the HD2 sucks. I've had HTC before, they look AWESOME when u buy them, and then three month later, covers start getting loose etc, and to get the parts replaced, you might as well buy a new phone.

Only thing putting me of the N8 is Symbian, its really getting old now, but i have faith in Nokia, cos ever since I;ve got my 5800, they've regularly been upgrading the software. So it might take some time, but dont think they'll be anywhere near Android or iOS anytime soon.

I've only heard good things from friends I know who have the iPhone 4. but im worried about the limitations.

Give us 'blank' hardware that we choose what OS we want. That's the way forward! Then it becomes about making the best hardware, most feature packed, etc.

Well, apparently u can install Android on the iPhone, and i'm hoping somebody ports OVI Maps to iphone, now THAT would be AWESOME, even sprortstracker

I couldn't have said that any better Kingrob.

It's 2011 now and the N8 pawns the HTC when it comes to reception sensitivity. After all the HTC should be an effective phone first, not?

I am happy with both except for the HTC battery and reception issues. Hopefully I can get a custom ROM to improve the HTC.

Can it do that, I must try it for sure.

PS: Nah it failed. Another reason for not getting a N8? as it refuses to give me private pleasures.
