MyBroadband Conference: Thank you!

I would like to thank Vodacom for another great MyBroadband Conference. Top speakers, great venue, great food and excellent event organizers.

Thanks to all the delegates that attended – it was by far the biggest and best MyBroadband conference yet and your support makes the event what it is.

Well done to MyBroadband, RPM, Cara, Aki and all the sponsors, for a great event. We really enjoyed the conference, and look forward to this event in the years to come. iCubed Technologies will definitely be back, year after year.

The best speakers at the conference:
- Rudi Jansen of MWEB: great video & presentation
- Lars Reichelt of Cell C: excellent presentation
- John Holdsworth of ECN: excellent presentation/talk on Interconnect/ICASA/DoC

They were well prepared, very professional, and captivating. I would like to see all the other speakers just as prepared and professional in future events. RPM - you should try to push this agenda, if possible.

There were definitely some very boring speakers at the conference, most notably the CEO of Infraco. If possible, I think the event should also be scheduled to start at 9:30am instead of 9:10am, and end at 3pm, instead of 3:30pm. JHB Traffic is a b*tch, especially for people travelling far, like us from the South. Also, the last hour or 2 of the event was a tad bit boring, perhaps because we were tired. Maybe you should try shortening the conference a bit, as suggested above (40min makes a huge difference!)

In future events, MyBroadband should really work hard to try and get high-level representatives from:
- the PPC on Communications (Ismail Vadi perhaps?)
- ICASA
- The DoC
- Telkom (we need the CEO!)

This is probably going to be very difficult to achieve, if not impossible, but definitely worth the effort of trying.

Aki did an excellent job of playing MC. He brought lots of life and some entertainment into the event.

I enjoyed the streaming. Made up for not being able to attend this year.

The timing of the fire alarm was unfortunate. I think Telkom was somehow to blame, because it prevented any awkward questions on IPC being directed at Steve Lewis.

Besides Roelf, who managed to get some good barbs in, I didn't think the panel discussions were as lively as they could have been. Very good presentations from Rudi and Lars, though.

Way too much time taken up in handing out freebies, but I suppose if you are attending and have a chance to win something, it is not quite as boring.

I would also like to see some DoC, ICASA or PPC representation in future.

Overall, another excellent event.

The freebies just continued to come in from companies (and really great freebies as well), and as you mentioned the delegates quite liked the prizes

We will work on the panel discussions, and have an idea or two for next year.

Problem with the DoC, ICASA and the like is that they often promise you the chairman or minister, but they seldom arrive (often send some other unprepared person in their place). This is why we are very hesitant to deal with them when organizing an event like this. Maybe another politician like De Lille may be a good idea...

My first conference visit - enjoyed it a lot!

As a student, I really wished I could have won one of those CellC 60GB hampers (especially with Telkom not being able to provide ADSL connectivity at my residence, maybe I should trench my own fiber as well!)

Enjoyed the comments on "peering relationships" (mostly from Rudi Jansen and Roelf Diedericks) - as my current postgraduate research will involve looking at peering-vs-transit relationships and the effects thereof (economical/customer experience). I am currently formulating my research topic, so any comments (or contacts of people who I should talk to regarding such a topic) would be appreciated (you can just me a message).

Next time I will just remember to take an energy bar or two, got really hungry before lunch and at the end of the conference.

I enjoyed the conference a lot, and found many of the presentations and speeches very educational. Aki was a fantastic MC and most of the speakers were well-prepared and even entertaining. I will make sure to join the conference next year.

Maybe insert a smoke break before and after lunch, otherwise it was a huge success!! Who would have thought an internet forum could attract such big players in the industry..!
