I think my one of my RAM dimms is busted. Is there a RAM tester anyone can suggest that I can download? :confused:

http://www.memtest86.com/

I've used this one a couple of times before - it's picked up a few bum dimms for me.

* Highly recommended.

It's still too early in the morning for me. How does this work? Do I use the ISO to create a bootable cd then boot from it? Will it run automatically?

Yeah, use a rewritable, since the image is only a couple of k in size.
Boot off the CD, and it will run automatically. You can set options while it's running.

Then give it puh-lenty of time to run through all your ram.

If you need a second opinion .... http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Not as good as memtest86... but does the job.

thisgeek or killa: How many passes do guys normally let it do? I did 2 passes. Is that enough? It didn't find any problems after 2.

If you don't find any problems after say 2 passes, then chances are your ram is fine.

What issues are you having that make you suspect your ram?

i'd run about 5 passes to be on the safe side.

I had some problems with my external HDD. But I think that's due to my front USB not providing enough power.

Mainly I just wanted to check since I had to get my previous Dimm swapped out due to it failing.

I'll let it run 5 passes when I've got time, maybe this weekend.
