Description:
The Company requires four (4) network and desktop support technicians to provide end user support for both the LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network) as well as to maintain the Company’s network infrastructure.
2.2. Project The project is a support and maintenance of the Company’s desktop user’s and the network infrastructure. Provide technical support for data communications network or group of networks and second line end user support. This is an ongoing project which forms part of the Company’s Information Technology operations programme.
Duties will include the following:
2.2.1. Provide general IT support to all COMPANY users;
2.2.2. Attend to LAN and WAN calls;
2.2.3. Troubleshoot hardware and software errors;
2.2.4. Resolve connectivity issues;
2.2.5. Asset Management processes and procedures for IT equipment;
2.2.6. Setup and configure desktop PC’s to the network;
2.2.7. Install application programs requested by the user;
2.2.8. Setup training environments when requested;
2.2.9. Deploy software patches and updates;
2.2.10. Provide laptop support;
2.2.11. Re-imaging of desktop computers as required;
2.2.12. Basic printer troubleshooting and support;
2.2.13. Problem determination and resolution;
2.2.14. Bandwidth monitoring, usage and statistics;
2.2.15. Liaise with Telkom on day-to-day running of the VSAT network and to VPN network to all offices
2.2.16. Liaise and coordinate with Telkom engineers on office movements, installations and relocations of VSAT and landline as applicable.
2.2.17. Liaise with engineers regarding PC, printer and peripheral repairs and call-outs.
2.2.18. Switch\Hub maintenance and management at HO, PEO, warehouse, Backup Site and
MEO offices.
2.2.19. Maintain database of WAN infrastructure. 2.3. Skills Requirements
The Desktop Support Technician will work in a team that will be responsible for providing 2nd line support to all end users. S/he will work in conjunction with system administrators, database administrators and external vendor technicians to achieve the support level that is required. As such, over and above qualifications and suitability, the curriculum vitae of the proposed candidates should, address the following experience:
2.3.1. Deep skills and experience in desktop support of Microsoft Operating Systems (Windows XP; Windows Vista) and Microsoft applications (Office, Outlook, Internet Explorer, WSUS, etc); and
2.3.2. It is further recommended that the candidate should have experience in Troubleshooting and roblem solving technical issues.
2.3.3. Knowledge of HP/Cisco switches and routers;
2.3.4. Certifications;
2.3.5. Good documentation skills.
2.4. Technical Skills requirements
In addition to the above skills experience, it will be advantageous for business analysts to also have the following technical skills: Resource Skills Minimum Experience
