PSL considers banning Vuvuzelas

The South African Football Supporters Association on Thursday lambasted the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) threat to review the use of vuvuzelas.

PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu and Kaizer Chiefs Chairperson Kaizer Motaung are unhappy that some fans use the plastic horns as missiles during matches. The club apologised after their supporters threw two vuvuzelas and a cabbage onto the pitch during a game against Orlando Pirates, last month.

Football fans have accused the PSL of losing touch with is its support base and the Supporter Association Head Siyabulela Makunga has come out in defence of the vuvuzela.

“We are quite displeased that there are calls from certain parts of the football administration to ban this world acclaimed instrument,” said Makunga.

But, Motaung said he felt the noise maker should be done away with.

“I personally feel that vuvuzelas do not actually enhance our game as such,” said Motaung.

Many soccer lovers in the country are divided over the issue, some feel the trumpet should be protected to maintain its legacy after the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

I dont really care since I dont watch the PSL, but that might change if we get some real atmosphere going

Never liked the vuvuzela drone, so banning it will only make things better.

What I do find curious is the fact that the crowd threw pieces of cabbage at the players after the game. WTF, who takes cabbage to a sports event??
 
I got no problems with the Vuvuzela, I actually like the instrument BUT if it is being used for violence at matches, they have every right to ban it.

Oh I see.
I thought vuvuzelas make more of an atmosphere as they are loud enough to create a loud enough noise even when the stadium is not full it sounds like it's seems full

Here's my problem with this statement, many people complain that they don't go to PSL matches because of vuvuzelas, but how many of them would go if they were banned? I would think not many. The problem is that too many people just assume that the PSL is ****, and thus decide not to go.

I agree that them being used as missiles is a problem, but I have no problem with them being used normally. If anything, Chiefs should just be fined to hell and back. For some reason there suspended fine from last year didn't kick in with this incident, and the new fine is wholely suspended. :mad:
