I've been looking at all these latest phones that's available now and coming soon.

iPhone, Windows Phone 7, Android, they are all very nice phones but they are nothing if you don't have a Data Plan.

Yes, the Blackberry is also nothing without a Data Plan but how much can you do on the above phones for R59-R69 per month?

I use a Blackberry and I don't have any extra data costs per month.

What do you use and what is your costs?

Sainet 3G @R89 for 300megs.

I happen to share that with the gf, at an additional R20 for the 2nd SIM. So, R108 or something a month for ~150megs. Skype calls via fring/nimbuzz etc (fring no longer supported) work if there's sufficient reception.

With Opera Mini, we hardly ever get close to the full 300. Then there's data rollover that covers the months with extra usage. Balances out well.

When plugging into laptops for emergencies, data goes quickly though...

BIS

I have asked a few times, but never really received a response to my liking: how much data do you use on BIS?

As mentioned, with on phone browsing, skype, IM and the odd smallish download, I never seem to be able to get over 200megs a month.

Plugged into a laptop, it's a different matter- that's not covered by BIS though. Can BIS do Skype? YouTube on phone? Torrents?

My 5800 can do all of that, and doubles as a modem when needed. Just gotta watch the data counter.

For the price of BIS, how many megs do you use and do you think it's worth it?

Considering you could pay R20/m more to get 300megs of 'do what you want' 3G, which is more usable?

I buy a 600MB bundle from Vodacom @ R189. Pace myself so it lasts two months then buy another.

I use a 5800 with Opera Mini + images turned off (Else it won't last a month :P)

Wait....is that on top of a contract? I subscribe to an additonal R29 for 30 megs per month and always go over my limit. Is it possible to get 600megs for R189 on contract, and have it carry over? In other words my R189 for 600megs lasts until its used up, then i can buy another 600 megs at R189?

I get either 300megs R139 or 110megs R80 on vodacom prepaid and lasts about a month,

you can get the 600megs for R189 anytime on vodacom for prepaid.

2GB a month, i have a Sony Ericsson X10, on a TopUp500s voda contract. I use the R500 airtime to buy the data and sms bundles, and whatever is left for calls, so i never go over R500pm on my contract. Ive also got a 5800xm, both it and X10 double as modems. I use my X10's built-in browser, as Opera Mini and the others just suck at loading pages properly.

My phone is under contract with MTN and that SIM is just for the free minutes, been using my Vodacom SIM for the past 8 years (pre-paid).

I used to get the 300MB bundle but for the past few months have been buying the 600MB one as it offers A LOT more value for money for only a little extra. The bundles expire in 2 months (so it's like 300MB a month as opposed to buying a 300MB bundle every month)

100 megs for me, samsung galaxy :) R79

I had a blackberry, installed a data counter out of interest... i used it a lot, and max usage i saw was 70 megs.

Ok. So I installed a nice Data, Call and SMS manager program on my Torch. Yesterday alone I used about 20MB on the device. The nice thing about it is that it doesn't cost me anything because I use BIS.

Let's see 20MB x 30 = 600MB per month and it only cost me R60. I'll see how much I can get this month. Maybe I'll try to push for 1GB or even 2GB.

How is internet surfing on that 3.2'' display? I get frustrated on my iPhone's 3.5'' display, cos the YouTube videos look a bit low-budget & all the zooming in and out on normal web sites gets a bit frustrating.

*A friend of mine use his Blackberry to watch unlimited porn videos on a porn web site, he's very happy with his BB. :D
