SA farmers want to relocate to Georgia

Pretoria - Sixty South African farmers are interested in relocating and buying land in Georgia in Eastern Europe, agricultural union TAU SA said on Thursday.

"Anybody, not only South Africans, can go there. The state owns agricultural land in each of the 10 provinces and wishes to sell it to commercial farmers," deputy secretary Bennie Van Zyl said.

"More and more people are wanting information on this and want to be put on the list. This is a much better proposition compared to South Africa."

Asked whether this could result in a huge number of the country's 40 000 farmers leaving for Georgia, Van Zyl said it was too early to predict.

Most would like to stay but they were being chased by crime, corruption, water pollution and an unfriendly government, he said, adding that no government department at this stage was not a threat to the farmer.

"The first goal is to stay and make a positive contribution, but if we're not given a chance, what are we supposed to do?"

Because TAU SA has a memorandum of understanding with Georgia, farmers interested in getting a share of land there must go through the union.

"We will then ensure that they can actually farm and are not some fly-by-night."

According to Van Zyl, their relationship with Georgia dates back many years.

This is a great opportunity for farmers, because the government in Georgia is open-minded and has a future-driven approach, he said.

"The government knows that, without commercial farmers, the country can't go forward... commercial farmers are (a country's) biggest asset. It's a pity our government doesn't have this approach."

To kick-start the process of relocating farmers, TAU SA had been tasked with investigating the agricultural potential and possible investment opportunities for South Africans.

Georgia needs expertise as it wants to uplift its agricultural sector which was destroyed by socialism and communism about 70 years ago.

"They've requested the services of an advisory committee of three experts to assist them to ensure that the project is conducted properly, and that proper economic-driven principles are applied to determine how the land could be distributed in meaningful economic units," said Van Zyl.

Their services would be needed for a period of at least three months or more.

"They're in quite a hurry and would prefer to start the project on December 1," said Van Zyl.

I guess...you...didn't know...we depend on farmers for food! Its not as if we have an oversupply of farmers, and most farms bought by government went from successful commercial farms to underdeveloped subsistence farms :rolleyes:

But this is what they have always done -- when things get tough -- the "tough" get going.

Always "Trekking" to somewhere -- to get away from something or someone. ( sometimes even their OWN people )

They should really be known as African GYPSIES.

What the Afrikaner has failed to understand is that the journey they seek is an INTERNAL one.

The external manifestation is a function of the internal turmoil -- the Afrikaner does not yet really know WHAT or WHO he is. ( VERY strange lost tribe of Africa )

IF he wants to stay in Africa then he better start dusting off his "Sanna" and his "Roer" ready for the White Homeland ( and NOT make all the mistakes of the past )

Jip, people need to survive and the South African government have given them no incentive to stay around and produce. Would you continue to work for a company where you are under-appreciated ?
 
Best of luck to them, they will make a success there and probably do a lot of good for that country.
As for us? Well we have seen that taking farms away dosnt work, the new "owners" have no ****ing clue.

This is the difference

It is NOT about survival -- it IS about having things YOUR way.

Go back and look at the history of the Eastern Cape.

Somehow the 1820 settlers managed to survive ( in the same area )

What happened to the Afrikaners that stayed in the OFS and the TVL in 1903 ?

What happened to those that "trekked" to Angola , to Argentina . to Kenya , to Tanganiyka , to Bermuda , to America , to Rhodesia etc etc

When you are under-appreciated you bite the bullet and get yourself a Phd -- that is the ESSA way -- rather than upping sticks and "trekking".

That said -- it was too late for the Rhodesians -- they left it too late trying to fight the rest of the World ( and John Vorster )

The "WALL" never came down in time for them.

The "agenda" as I have always said is for ALL whites to get out of Africa -- ( it is a long story.)

I do not think that they fully understand EXACTLY what it is that they are getting themselves involved in

Georgia has an english language daily ( they even quote CHURCHILL -- that should go down well :D )

In Zimbabwe and Mozambique they thought the same as you do - and look at their economies now.
It might only be 60 farmers now but it can quickly escalate to thousands of farmers if the conditions are favourable for the 1st 60 pioneer farmers.
Not good for SA
 
Good luck to those farmers - I would do the same
Africa is a fail no doubt.

Yeah.... I wouldnt go around calling anyone illiterate if I couldn't even spell "afrikaner" properly myself....
 
Oh what a big loss to our country, our lives, our furture. Do you think if we all go on our knee's and beg them to stay they will atleast reconsider????????? Hhahaaahahahhaaaaa all I can say is VOETSEK and good riddance!

Yes and yes (Reference: Katie Melua). They won't stay there for long. Much more difficult farming and not many people speak english there.
