So I phoned the sales team asking about the recharge they decided to drop.
I asked how is it possible for Afrihost and others to offer such affordable deals.
The same old reply came....."THEY ARE DOING IT AT A LOSS AND WILL SOON HAVE TO STOP"

This is the same song Matt Tagg sang when Afrihost were selling it at R29 per gig and
they introduced there new network at close to R50 per gig or close to that about a year ago I think.

So Afrihost is running at a loss for more than a year now..

Stop running your competition down with these tactics WA.

Hi dd1313

Please see the response on our forums regarding the discontinuation of recharge:

The intention at the time of launching the Recharge add-on was to provide it, ongoing, for an unspecified period of time - as we do with all offerings. It is merely an add-on that had to be reviewed as it just is not feasible; and like all product life-cycles has come to an end.

The customers who are most affected by this change are those that have been using recharge as a primary product - which is something it was never intended for, as in-Bundle-rates need to be priced lower than Out-of-bundle rates (Top-Ups). (Otherwise nobody would want to use our packaged options).

Honesty and transparency are absolutely important to us. Its one of the core, founding principles of Web Africa - thus why we have open forums where we invite our community to join us in working together to reach our shared goals: Great products, competitively priced, that are still profitable - to ensure we can continue to deliver our usual level of excellent service to our customers.

Discontinuing Recharge was a difficult decision for us, but it had to be done.

We know that many of our customers will appreciate that we continue to act according to good business principles.

Overall, if one combines In-bundle rates with Download Plus it comes out at around R13 per GB - really great value.

wouldnt touch that joke of an isp with a bargepole, get yourself a proper (mweb) uncapped solution.

Back to the: "it's unsustainble" quote.

Well, give them credit guys ... WA tried for a couple of months and found it to be unsustainable ... AH tried and still succeeds ... for at least a year now.

All the work that WA did the last few months to play catch-up has been lost. WA has dropped their prices, offered specials and now picked up their prices again. There's nothing worse than an unpredictable supplier.

AH on the other hand took the plunge, dropped prices and kept it there. They offer specials from time to time to drop prices even further 2 for 1, 3 for 1 and now the free GB. But they haven't committed the cardinal sin (increase their prices in a market of falling prices). Makes AH look the better supplier, network issues of both WA and AH aside.

I admit they do seem to have a bipolar business model!

*We can't compete so we'll say were premium...fa la la la la la la la la*
