Why is the ACRyan PlayOn! HD so much cheaper than the Mede8er?

Also, can either be run without a HDD?

I used to think that they where basically the same, but recently the Playon is freezing for a few seconds while browsing the network and HDD every few seconds. Its driving me crazy. A couple of times its taken a good 30 sec for the unit to become responsive again. Also the remote is sluggish compared to the Mede8er. Like you're never sure if the unit received the signal. Then it jumps over your selection and freezes on the wrong one for a few seconds..
If you can afford the Mede8er then get that one. The difference in the firmware is worth the extra cash. If you can't afford it, then playon is the best thing in its price range imo. Both can be run without an HDD.

included accessories are better with mede8er. Build quality and looks are better. Menus look nicer. 2 year warranty opposed to ac ryan's 1 year...
