I think MyBB has enough influence to help shape the Internet industry in South Africa. Maybe its time you guys move from the MTN network to join the free peering buzz. I love Hetzner and I hope they are the ones to make that decision. Lets show these fat cats that we the consumer runs the show.

Agreed! WA should change their peering too - seems www.webafrica.co.za and wage.co.za goes via London.

I agree.

If anything, MyBB cannot go against the tide on this one. Sorry rpm, we know it will hurt, but you have to pressure Hetzner to move, or you must move MyBB away.

MWeb is doing their best to bring free peering to SA, and they will not succeed if people do not unite against the likes of MTN and help force their hands.

mybb is a business.... they will do whats best for mybb.
the "fatcats" buy the most ads.

We are working on a few solutions, but there are challenges. WE should be able to give more details next week.

Hetzner should have more than one provider...

...looking forward to see what you guys can do.

Well MyBB could do much better than Hetzner - "Trusted in Hosting" cough, would like to know why they decided to host there in the first instance?

Great, looking forward to hearing about it. Surely between MWeb, IS and WebAfrica there are more than reasonable enough deals for MyBB to change too?

You're joking right, when last did you see a Vodacom, MTN, Telkom ad on this site? Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if MWEB hosted this site free with the amount of customers we send them.

Still a more logical choice would be for Hetzner to peer directly at Cinx and bypass MTN directly, a high quality microwave link should to it.

According to the WA forums and the responses from WA reps there, WA is peering with Mweb . There might be other reasons why the traffic is going via london [or somewhere some technical detail is not being communicated] .

WA is peering but only at JINX so if you are on the MWEB JHB IPC the traffic goes via london.

To a previous comment, the only way MyBB can remain completely neutral would be if they stuck a server slap bang inside an INX. Or setup the server in a vendor neutral data centre.

Simple answer is for Hetzner to peer directly to CINX and route all local traffic through there, probably save them a bucket of cash as well.
