Article: Malema "shoot the boer" case goes to high court

The "shoot the boer" hate speech complaint against ANC Youth League president Julius Malema was transferred to the High Court in Johannesburg on Monday.

The matter was heard in a closed court and no media were allowed inside. It had initially been scheduled to take place at the Equality Court.

The complainant, civil rights movement AfriForum, withdrew its case against the ANC, but was proceeding with taking the ANCYL to court. The league responded by calling AfriForum a "group of racist children who are crazy".

I supported this case a matter of principle from the beginning, however the exclusion of the ANC from the case leads me to believe that Afriforum is using this as a political ploy rather than being genuinely concerned about hate speech. Why exclude the originators of the song and go after the youth league? Especially if the ANC has stated before they want it back...

I think they withdrew the complaint againt the ANC because they said sorry - or something like it.
