Hi Guys

With Mweb doing their thing with peering and whilst I do give kudo's to their move it has royally screwed up local gaming unless its peer to peer on IS or MWeb.

Where would be the best place to "weather the storm" so to speak whilst providing the same experiance as mweb. I never do greater than 150 gigs so dont know how things would turn out on IS uncapped accounts.

Who's considering doing the same ?

Well I'm on Webafrica, and the pings all seem ok to me (servers on all ISPs), but maybe it will change somewhat in the coming days. Afaik Webafrica have said they are peered with most key players.

Maybe you should just get some prepaid for testing, or a small data account from WA or another ISP that is peered, using Route Sentry or Traffic Splitter (google or search the forum) you could route all the gaming traffic through your second account.

Do not use Web Africa if you wanting to game and dont live in Cape Town,I live in Pretoria and get a ping of 130 on average to a SGS(SAIX) server whereas if I use a SAIX account I get about 30 and on is(uncapped nogal) I get 60 to the same server.

Web Africa dont have an exchange in Gauteng like IS and SAIX do so you have to go all the way to CPT then get routed back up to the servers in Gauteng.

To be honest I am not impressed with Web Africa and their speeds I get,I was one of the luck few mybb subscribers to get the 30GB package so moved from SAIX to them and my connection was much more responsive on Telkom.

I forgot to mention that issue on the pings with WA, I'm in the same boat but frankly they aren't that bad to me.

I get about 70ms to most servers I guess.

I must say IS is looking more interesting, I'm not quite sure whether uncapped or normal would be necessary for gaming as it would include xbox live and well those p2p games can be monsters.

Well like I said try get some prepaid or something and see how it works, afaik Axxess uses IS for some of their accounts, unfortunately can't advise on exactly which to try.

I would probably stick with MWeb for downloads atm if it's working well.

Don't forget mweb is getting exclusive use of the blackops servers.

Although all things considering whe it comes to local, if its uncapped you'll have low latency with anyone else be it IS or not and IS based unshaped accounts are more popular now so those wll be fine too. Just the games servers you're doomed over.

Nope, not exclusive use, but MWeb will be MANAGING the black-ops servers, we still don't know who will he hosting them.

Regarding the perfect ISP for a specific locally hosted server ... trial and error, same as always.

Not sure about other IS resellers, but with Afrihost, when u hit around 30GB ur gonna get shaped, and it's not pleasant. I switched to a capped account after getting throttled to death (read 512k) at just under 30GB. Not optimal for uncapped.
