The next battle is line rental costs not data prices anymore! Telkom sux!

We have had so much to talk about, what with the constant decrease in data prices and the competition 'effect' within the various ISP's we as consumers are happier now, BUT, untill there is a way to get data line rental prices down (no idea how) Telkom is still making a killing at our expense!!! data line rental charges are proposterously high in SA, are there any ideas out there on how to "fight this battle"'??? I mean R415 odd just to rent a 4MB line is ridiculous :mad: Come on people lets shift our focus to this issue now!!
 
if im not mistaken, there were some guys here who gave very lengthy explanations for why telkom is justified in charging us 2 line rentals etc.
if i remember correctly, the ADSL subscribers are spread out all over the country in different areas but they make up a very small percent of the population and this means it costs telkom much more to service these consumers etc..
my point is, why does the normal line rental fee have to be so high and the per minute cost of local calls are also very high. if they reduced the line rental to R50 monthly(free for pensioners) and made all local calls free, almost every house will have a land line.
then reduce ADSL line rental fees per month as follows:
384k- R50
512k-R100
4-10MB-R200
then offer uncapped ADSL data per month as follows:
384k-R200
512k-R300
4-10MB-R500

then see the subscribers increase and the broadband penetration rate increase. of course, im not getting into the issue of whether 384k and 512k can be truly called broadband at all.
 
Not only is the rental preposterously high, but try phoning the ADSL hotline if you have a problem with your line and they will do their utmost to refuse to speak to you if you use any ISP other than Telkom Internet, even if you still have your ADSL rental with them. They are an abomination.
 
Yeah if the rental drops, so would the internet connection too

Try and get Telkom to make ADSL available in a small town.
