Article: JHB cops take 50 taxis off the road

Good start. Any vehicle failing the test twice should be crushed at the owners expense.

They should be left stranded.

If they bear the brunt of the crackdown, people will start being careful of which taxis they climb into. If it looks dodge, give it a skip and wait for a better one. That'll get the drivers/owners to take care of their death wagons.
 
Some good news at last, but 50 is nowhere near enough. The law should applied more harshly on taxi's not less, they are carrying passengers after all. I travel on that road regularly and I know there's barely even enough space for proper driving.

Don't know much about this "Operation Pajamadonki" or whatever it is but these damn taxi maniacs need to be tested and more importantly held accountable for their reckless driving as a standard procedure not just through special operations.

Sadly that is not how taxi ranks work. There is a lot of intimidation there, if you don't get on the next taxi to your destination they intimidate you to get on. My sister asked her housekeeper why she got onto the "deathtrap" taxis and she told the story.

It makes sense from a sick point of view. Keep the people using the taxis, no matter how horrible they are. They really do not have a choice.

My maid hates taxis but she is forced to use them.
 
Hopefully that 50 coffins won't be on our roads again.
