Position: 3rd Line Backup Engineer
Position Summary and Primary Objectives • Ensure business recovery by testing, monitoring, reporting & troubleshooting backups for various clients.
• Tasks will include:
o Advanced troubleshooting and Scheduling of backup jobs.
o Trending backup success rates and failures.
o Advanced Backup hardware and software troubleshooting.
o Report writing.
o Adherence to internal and ITIL based processes & procedures.
o Interface with clients on a regular basis
o Adherence to Daily, weekly & monthly operational tasks.
Requirements: Education, Training and Experience • Matric
MCSE and 4 -5 years hands on working and troubleshooting skills on Windows 2000 and 2003 Server.
• 4 -5 years IT working experience.
• Working knowledge of Windows 2000 and 2003 Server Operating Systems.
• Working knowledge of VERITAS Backup Exec suites – 10 , 10d, 11d, 12 and 12.5
• Working knowledge of VERITAS Netbackup 5.1, 6.0 and 6.5
• Working knowledge of upgrading backup software
• Working knowledge and understanding of backup Tape Libraries – tape and virtual.
• Working knowledge and understanding of backup hardware components – SCSI Card settings, Cables (Fibre and Copper), Switches, Network Card settings, Robotic Libraries, Scanners.
• Working knowledge of Remote Administration – Windows Servers
• Good Troubleshooting skills
• Reporting skills (MS Excel)
• Good communication skills (verbal and written).
• Good understanding of backup media rotation.
Personal Attributes and Skills Required • Good Team Player.
• Client focused.
• Good Report writing skills.
• Analysis and troubleshooting skills.
• Take pride in their work.
• Able to take ownership.
• Lead/Coach junior engineers in complex and difficult troubleshooting situations.
