Anyone else here use Skype for pocket PC?

Skype has its own version for pocket PC than can work off a wireless lan. Its really nice because all palmtops these days have a built in mic and speaker, so you can pretty much use it like a regular phone, though you will look like a loser. Its quite nice for hotspots...

Anybody else with a pocket PC want to give it a try?

Works like a charm.... EXCEPT the Siemens PDA has the microphone and speaker too close together and goes in to a feedback loop. I have to resort using an external speaker/headset... dont know about the iPaq series

Tried it on an HP PDA..... worked well.
Used Wireless LAN as well.

I use an HP iPAQ. The iPAQs usually have the speaker underneath the control pad at the bottom, and the microphone at the top. This means you look like an idiot holding the unit upside-down, but hey, who really wants to use Telscum?

I didn't know Siemens made PDAs...

Works nicely on the jasjar - when the battery is not flat - which is most of the time!!

No-go on the i-mate K-Jam... Processor too slow ; speakerphone (only option with Skype) does not work properly.

And Skype is not really VOIP in the true sense of the word...

i have an imate kjam and it works fine - although i will admit it is super retarded using skype on a cell phone. so i dont use it.

have you tried the latest rom for the phone?

install an SIP client and sign up at another VOIP provider, which will be cheaper than skype and the PPC app actually works ;P

Using a K-JAM and Skype. Voice is slow, but there are workarounds.

1. Get the latest Skype 2.1 beta. Much better.
2. Get the latest ROM for your phone.
3. K-JAM users - get omapclock, and set to 240MHz. (Warranty void warning)
4. Check out forum.xda-developers.com and search for Skype - there are ways to streamline Skype to work nicely (voice) on a K-JAM/Wizard.
5. Use Skype for chats only - no voice. The only option if you are on GPRS/EDGE. :(

SJPhone is the one to look at in this case.

I don't quite understand what you are saying here, MobileAllOver!!

Skype is using VOIP (Voice over IP). They are the market leaders and happen to have 60 million (yes more than total SA population) active users. They have shaken up the legacy telephone businesses worldwide. Telkom's times is coming, just a matter of time.

What is the true sense of the word?

I have done all of the above. Linked to my wireless network to try and skype, no go :( . Don't see the point of supplying the software if it has no real use. Best idea is just to uninstall it. If your looking for a ppc IM try the agile one or just use the MSN one supplied.

I see they have rectified the problem with the jasjam. It runs at 400Mhz

Hey guys
Been playing with Skype on the i750, the chatting works great, but calling is another story. It's very wierd but calling only seems to work if i have my bluetooth headset connected  otherwise the phone just freezes.
Odd, but it works pretty well over WiFi.
I've tried all 3 versions on Skypes site (2.0, 2.0 for Slower CPU's, 2.1 Beta) and all have this problem, ironically the beta seems more consistant.
