1990
Average world HDI(1990): 0.2
South Africa(1990): 0.7

2008:
Average world HDI(1990): 0.8 +400%
South Africa(1990): 0.65 -7%

Yes, human rights has seen a light year leap and we are recognised for that, but if we look closer to the picture, is everything really being handled in the best and most fair manner? why has our average life quality actually dropped, while in the rest of the world it has quadrupled?

Simple:

India and China has progressed at rates never before seen in human history. They constitute 40% of humanity ergo HDI rose.

South Africa since then has gotten AID's

AIDS takes all the blame? AIDS is not really effecting the working and skilled class that much as it is effecting those who already aren't able to participate. What about the other quarter who can't even find work?

Actually it is, and its quite scary how you don't know about HIV in your own country. Let me put it into perspective:

South Africa's population is growing mostly due to immigrants from Zimbabwe, Mozambique etc. They constitute already more than 10% of our population.
If those immigrants don't come, South Africa's population will actually decrease (like it did in 2008). Regardless of the amount of kids people have, more people die, thats how much HIV is in prevalence in this country.

You wouldn't be asking these questions if you knew how HDI was calculated. I see Kazakhstan is higher than us, I'd rather live here than there mind you :D

Well that's because you only see your own posh little suburb, you aren't living in a shack/rdp house or have to get into the inefficient mines everyday (Australia uses robotics/ better organising for that one) .

Iraq, Iran and Haiti have a higher life expectancy than SA. How is that possible.
 
So we must move to Kazakhstan ranked 66th in the world? Think I'll stay put in our top-32 economy for now.
 
Well,I have been to Israel :) very nice and modern country. Surprisingly they do not rank higher. And yes South Africa is nice too - as long as you stay near in the European areas (or game parks or any other European developed places). Go into the african areas (called townships) and it feels like you have moved into another world never mind country ! Interestingly enough, as the Europeans move out of the country and illegal african immigrants move in, the situation is deteriorating rapidly. Look at the graph. South africa is moving away from the world averige and closer to the sub Saharan averige.
