No arrests in Soweto school gang rape

"I don't think any arrests have been made yet... but we are visiting the school today [Monday] to speak to teachers and the principal," said spokesman Charles Phahlane.

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Richard Munyai was not immediately available for comment.

Munyai said on Saturday that initial investigations revealed that two girls were given a date-rape drug on Thursday and one of them, aged 15, was then allegedly gang-raped while it was being filmed on the boys' cell phones.

The alleged rape was said to have happened on the school grounds in Soweto during school hours.

Munyai said that the identities of the boys were known but that their arrests were still pending.

"We haven't spoken to them or their parents yet because we are still investigating. We can't just rush in there and arrest people," he said on Saturday.

He said the police did not go to the school on Friday because exams were in progress but that they were expected to meet with the school administration on Monday.

What the ****? You have to consult their parents? Just arrest the criminals.
 
wierd ... EyeWitness News is reporting this to have happened at Jules High School in Jeppestown?
Soweto is the opposite side of town completely

Thats very considerate of them to take the fact that the pupils are writing exams into account. Maybe they should take the victim into account too?

The police, who are the enforcers of the "legal system", are very concerned about priorities and regard crimes against females as being very low on their list.

The police consider it much more important to immediately arrest a journalist (Mzilikazi wa Africa) who criticizes the boss than to arrest a bunch of gang rapists.

Remember the trial of nine men accused of killing a 19-year-old woman in 2006, allegedly because she was a lesbian. The case has been postponed for the 30th time which shows how much importance the "legal system" attaches to female victims.

Do you think the legal system really flags cases against females and stalls them on purpose or marks them low priority? I really doubt that, never heard of it before. Perhaps some police officers could have prejudices but I doubt it's an automatic thing in the legal system. Is there any other proof of this?
 
The police are a joke, hell the entire system is a joke. Unfortunately it's not a very funny one. And then this dumb-ass government wants to know why people want to take things into their own hands.

Proof?
The best we can do is (pardon the cliche) look at the bigger picture. The inescapable fact is that, in the old sacrosanct culture and in the new South Africa, women are the property of men to be used, abused and dumped when no longer useful.

I long ago lost count of the numbers of women who have been killed by husbands/boyfriends in spite of having protection and restraining orders.

Similarly, I need all my fingers and a few toes to count my female acquaintances who are rape victims and never saw justice.

While on the subject of justice, you might also think about a recent case where a killer was arrested, tried and sentenced in one day. The man who killed German millionaire Uwe Gemballa got 20 years behind bars. Big names and big money in the background so one wonders what is being hidden.
