MTN iPhone4 and VPN?

I noticed that on my iPhone4 I am unable to change my APN settings (or view them). Has anyone else been able to connect via VPN to L2TP or PPTP?
 
Do you have to change your APN on MTN to use VPN? I know Vodacom used to be like that a few years back - I can now connect to PPTP using Vodacom's standard APN :)

I am unsure about this. I also don't know anyone with an iPhone4 on MTN and using VPN :-(
