Deputy Police Minister Maggie Sotyu says South Africa's courts are racist because black criminals receive harsher sentences than their white counterparts.

Beeld newspaper reports Sotyu said a white farmer who dragged a black farmworker behind his bakkie got off with a fine of R10 000.

In contrast, when a black worker killed a white farmer he was jailed for life.

"So we are saying that those are politics of racism because our courts need to be empowered, they need to be aware that we are now in (the) new South Africa," she added.

The comments drew criticism from civil rights group AfriForum who said it had asked National Director of Public Prosecutions, Menzi Simelane, to determine whether Sotyu had transgressed her parliamentary privilege.

"The deputy minister should rather devote her time and energy to the effective prevention of violent crime, than to polarise the community to an even greater degree with her racially-obsessed statements," said AfriForum's head of community safety Nantes Kelder.

Sotyu, a former chairwoman of Parliament's portfolio committee on police, was appointed deputy minister in President Jacob Zuma's major Cabinet reshuffle 10 days ago.

She reportedly made the remarks after a briefing to MPs on Tuesday on the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation's report on violent crime in South Africa.

Yip. That is why I posted in the other thread where the suffle was anounced that I aint excited in the least bit. The way ANC operates....replace one idiot with another....then with another.....and another. And around and around we go on the gravy chook chook.
 
The race card story is very irritating. It seems to be popping up every day now. OUR GOVT IS REALLY PATHETIC
 
Backwards bitch. Just using the random race card to generate media coverage which in turn will generate approval from the masses of uneducated, potential supporters that buy into these BS 'tactics'.
 
I may be wrong in saying this but it seems that blaming things on racism seems to be a popular scapegoat for bigger issues.

This country has got to a point where its tearing at the seams as a result of the ANCs rule.
Before they could blame their problems on the last administration for pretty much everything, but now they have their rights and their freedom. However things don't seem to be going that well with the country in general.

They don't know who to blame, they certainly do not want to blame themselves to mucking it up, for wasting their chance to make the country better. So they blame it on a past issue, something they could resort to before the ANC took power.

But now that its over, and it IS over, they have nothing to point to but themselves and they are too stupid/naive/arrogant to take the blame or look at the big picture. Before it was easier to say "the reason why things are not good is because of the oppression"... they don't have that anymore but they don't want to let it go.

A little bit of repetition but I think I got my point across. Its easy to blame things on something/someone else, its a whole other thing to accept blame and do something about it.

Perhaps a better way of saying this would be something along the lines of:
Before black people were oppressed - they were held back. So they could blame not having a good quality of life/money on the oppression.
But now the lid has been taken off and reforms have been made, but things are getting worse for quite a lot of people, or they are not able to get any higher than they are now.
So they blame what previously held them back, something that does not exist anymore.

In other news, statistics are racist and the formulae need to be rewritten because violent crimes are shown to be committed by more black than white people.

Did the black farm worker die otherwise it would be moronic to compare the sentence for intention to assault with intention to murder. Also how was the white farmer killed, most probably torture as usual.

Nice role models these ANC supporters got... if you are unable to do your job just shout racist or Apartheid :rolleyes:

I must say its strange how little the Chinese, Indians, Coloureds and white people use the race card, but maybe black people just suffer from an inferiority complex and need to use that race card for everything.
