I want to convert a webpage or a png image into plain simple text.

I found a online webpage that does this job - it's somewhat accurate: http://www.newocr.com/.

However, I'm looking for some OCR software (offline) that doesn't break the bank...Nothing too expensive (preferably something less than R1000 if that's possible). I can't seem to find anything that's worth buying.

Yes, ABBYY Finereader is the undisputed king of OCR programs with an incredible accuracy rate. But it is expensive.

There are a few free OCR programs around, but they suffer from the same inaccuracy problems.

I found a product for $40 that does almost exactly what I want, but then I downloaded a trial version of AABBYY finereader 10, and it's really awesome - does what I want perfectly!!

The lowest price I could find for version 10 is R1204.00. Does perhaps anyone know of a cheaper price??

EDIT: Scratch that...I found it for $59.95, which is equivalent to R413.30. I guess you can't get any lower than that.

Another OCR software I have used is Omnipage but that will be close to 1K.

Most scanners come with free basic scanning software including OCR. If you are not going to do heavy OCRing then they will be sufficient.
