Telkom and MWEB's latest ADSL KPIs

Holy crap, Telkom jitter (42.83ms) is 135% of its latency (31.65ms) !!! They probably used the Rondebosch ESR to measure these stats :-)

Hmm not that i want to defend telkom....since my other adsl line is still down after they have been out there quite a few times, but to be fair, mwebs network is quite new as opposed to telkoms. I might be wrong, since i coudnt really be bothered to do any research whatsoever, but telkoms network is still mostly mixed copper and fibre, while mweb`s is presumably mostly new and fibre based.

but yay for mweb :) combining good service with win win company strategies! well done. keep it "up".

I think were all still on the same "wires" - Telkom wires. Just depends on how the ISP manages the service. I would think MWEB still has Telkom backend for their long hauls between cities, etc... dont think htey have their own infrastructure...

I guess the local stats were measured before M-Web and SAIX started routing between each other via Mars. Currently, there's stats are not just in doubt, they're completely non-sensical. I would suggest that MyBB do one or two pings of their own...

No offence, but this is probably the most useless set of information I have seen!

I don't know how to summarise a hugely diverse and time-dependent set of data, but a list of averages is not the way...

Edit: Posted at the same time as ads, but agree with his comment!

MWEB national latency of 3.7ms?

Whats the point of measuring these stats from ESR's....it should be measured from adsl lines coming "into my home"; they're omitting a very important part of the adsl network here if you ask me. << Cheating ?

EDIT: Gordon_R....I FULLY agree with you regarding averages. It is not a good KPI and most certainly does not reflect the quality of service. Same goes for packet loss. They should track best and worst on a per hour basis and report best/worst of the worst hour, then you'll see a totally different story.

They also need to test their whole damn network, just selecting a couple of ESRs is cheating since you can bet your shoes that they will choose the best performing ones.

Ultimately, these stats are meaningless and are only there to earn brownie points with the regulator.

agreed.

Stupid Telkom
At least Telkom post their figures.

Companies like IS are @#$@ scared if people saw what their ADSL network performance is (or is not) . Well done to Mweb and Telkom as these are the only to companies who have the balls to do it.

I really wonder about the accuracy of the information here.

We have all been sitting around waiting, listening, wanting and plraying for a decent SNO , some have tried all have failed, the latest being neoflop. If only mweb could get the funding it needed , it could very well become or SNO . From the pricing they are giving us and from the service levels and constant striving to improve and taking what we the people say to heart , they would do a far better job then telkom and neoflop.

Imagine if they could make it possible... I really would not mind paying a bit more now.. To be free from paying the telkom rubbish that i am forced to pay each month! I wonder how much MWEB would need to really take on Telkom , it would be insta-fail for telkom . I am sure the guavament would try its best to stop it as they would loose income, telkom share holder would go ape **** and jump ship, just like all the uncapped adsl users it will signal the end for telkom. Even if they brought out a press release saying they are looking into it , that would cause a stir and rumble, far greater than that of neoflop.

They could start out small , JHB , PTA , DUR , CPT , PE , BLOEM . People WILL drop telkom like a hot turd! At the moment telkom is not worried about MWEB , they still milk everyone with the stupid line rental. I am not sure how much that is , but take that amount and multiply that by just for starters the 70 000 mweb uncapped users. Now try that on a larger scale .... Mweb can make a lot of money.....
