48 caught driving on wrong side of road

Johannesburg - Forty-eight motorists were arrested after they were caught driving on the wrong side of the road in Dunkeld on Wednesday morning, Johannesburg metro police said.

Spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the operation followed the JMPD's getting a complaint about taxis driving on the wrong side of the road at the intersection of Jan Smuts Avenue and Bompas Road.

"Of these arrests only five were (drivers of) taxis," said Minnaar.

Another 19 were women drivers, including the daughter of the complainant.

The arrests were made between 06:00 and 09:00. The motorists were released on free bail and would appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

"All motorists are expected to obey the rules of the road as JMPD is going to intensify law enforcement in an effort to reduce accidents."

Now this is the sort of work I am glad to see the JMPD doing, not just sitting in the shaddows waiting for a cash cow to drive past at 160km/h ... I actually applaud this ... I have on numerous occasions had to get out the way of a Taxi driving in the wrong lane towards me on Main Road - Woodmead, and some of them even have the audacity to flash.

Well done to the JMPD, I hope they can do things like this more often ... and I really do wish they'd start nabbing taxi's that stop in the middle of the damn road.

But still, this is a start.

Oh ... and fail for the complainants daughter :p

Maybe he did ... and his daughter said, nah ... it's easier and everyone does it ... so he thought "Is it hey ... we'll see" ;)
 
recently lost a front bumper to a taxi driving the wrong way:cry:
and he had no insurance
so guess who has to pay because of some idiot taxi
wd jmpd for a change!
 
Saw a guy on Olifantsfontein Road this morning, driving on the wrong side. Just stupid.

i see a pattern emerging .... i think we should take cars away from women drivers as they're all the same :p

i still think that's a sexist organisation, "First for women". anyone knows that a woman is an easier target and more prone to risks, then they try and make men look like monkies in their old adverts :D
 
Now my math isn't as great as it use to be, but 19 is still less than half of the total amount of people caught. :p

This was front page on The Star yesterday, the complainant was a woman by the name of Rusty something.
She wrote a letter to metro challenging them to do something about the chaos on Jan Smuts and they actually went ahead and did something.

Very impressed.
 
Wow, complainant's daughter, how ironic.

Also, I've never had some dumb animal driving in the wrong lane against me but I guess I've never lived in JHB. :/
 
overheard on 702, many of the drivers were mothers taking their kids to school :wtf:
 
Something just does not make sense. Why would 48 drivers drive on the wrong side of the road?

What is the reason for being on the wrong side of the road? People don't just do it because they feel like it.

I've never driven there before but does anyone know anything? Just so I can make some sense of this.
