I understand you could only buy the old one from google website but they didn't sell to SA as a result most got them locally from 3rd party retailers

If it's an improvement on the SGS, it'll be awesome! Need to add a flash to the camera and up internal memory to 16GB as standard.

Would it be available on contract? Was the last one? I didn't pay it much attention (I'm only due for an upgrade now :D)

Won't be available on contract, at least not in SA. You'll have to buy cash and import...
