I know most people like to despise Telkom as a company (there was never any other supplier to moan about) and some investment analysists would not touch Telkom with a 10 foot pole. Often this is when the contrarian investor becomes interested. When the share price has basically priced in total failure or even collapse.
If you put your objective cap on and look at the assets and infrastructure of Telkom, you must agree that it is still a very powerful and influencial giant. There has been a change of the guard at the top and Jeff Hedberg has a large task at hand - the good news is that he has been in this situation before (in Europe) and turned things around. I am hoping that his influence as well as the strong competition will result in - awakeing this sleeping giant !
If one considers that their Net Asset Value is R59 per share and its share price is about R36 you can see how much negative news is priced in. If there is a turn-a-round story on the JSE, then Telkom is it! Love it or hate it!
